Will Katy Perry be performing the theme song? Its the only thing that would make me watch any of this.

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Rio

Those primetime shows get the biggest ratings and if they showed them on Tues around 2pm nobody will be watching and it has been that way for decades now with tape delay.

I live on the West Coast too. Maybe they could show them live at 5pm PDT and then show the replay at 8pm like they do with the Golden Globes or the Grammys this past February so the people that want to see them live get their wish and the other people who are working can watch it at 8pm.

Maybe the local news affiliates might get ticked there is no 5pm news but it is only for 2 weeks plus most of them are on vacation during the Summer.

Off topic but it has always been weird to watch SNF and MNF when the afternoon sun is still out.

CBS is boring and hope they never get the rights to the Olympics.

Well, at least for Tokyo they are capable of supporting baseball for the Olympics because they have the Nippon Professional League. They can use the Tokyo Dome and other baseball venues outside of Tokyo. No extra expenses there.

I've been to the Tokyo Dome a few times on trips to Japan and it's a good baseball stadium, but could use a little face lift. But, the atmosphere is fantastic for baseball.

That would be cool, probably going to Japan next year and for sure, I want to go to a game

Absolutely if you go to Tokyo, a Giants game is a must do.

Usually you can buy cheap standing room only seats for only $10.

Yeah. I have no doubt that if 2020 was anywhere but JPN or USA, baseball/softball would not have come back. It's not a permanent addition either.

Didn't take long for for the USA women to score.

Hard to believe that JPN is not in Women's Soccer.

Canadian girls win their opener 2-0 over the Matildas, despite being down a man(woman ) for most of the match.

South Africa went down to ten men after the hour mark, but they are still holding Brazil scoreless after 80 minutes.

The defender who received the stupid and unnecessary red card after 18 minutes is a knockout.

That is true except for the soccer broadcasts done by the trio of Arlo White (Play-By-Play) - Kate Markgraf (Analyst) - Sebastian Salazar (Sideline Reporter). Those three are actually in Brazil and are doing the commentary on-site from the stadium where the broadcast is taking place.

Mens Gold Medal Match - Arlo White will be doing the play-by-play from the stadium while his analyst Kyle Martino will be at the NBC Connecticut studios.
(I think Sebastian Salazar is still scheduled to be doing the sideline reporting/interviews from the stadium.)

I am told by NBC PR that NBC Universo is no longer carrying Saturday's United States vs France womens soccer match. I don't know why.
I don't know what other programming NBC Universo has in the time slot. I do know its not other Olympic programming.
Match will still air LIVE - 4:00 pm ET-6:00 pm ET - on NBCSN and the Olympic soccer specialty channel.

@NBCSportsPR - @NBCSN averages 1.3 million viewers for @ussoccer_wnt win to open Rio Olympics - up 107% from 2012 London opener.

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Rio

For those with DirecTV that didn't know, there are two HD channels dedicated to just soccer and basketball that are carrying uninterrupted live matches as well as rebroadcasting some at the end of the day and days when there are no live events. As a for instance, the soccer channel is currently re-airing the Brazil-South Africa match in its entirety. This is particularly of interest if you are a fan of non-USA involved games since those tend to get "left" to check in on other events when being shown on for instance NBC. Also some matches aren't aired live at all except on these channels.

The channels are:
600-1 Olympic Soccer Channel
600-2 Olympic Basketball Channel

Opening Ceremonies: Organizers are planning on showcasing Brazil's love of samba and its annual carnival with costumes that celebrate the human figure … by covering up very little.

"There will be lots of nearly naked women doing the samba," a source told the Daily Mail. "The costumes have been designed to show off as much flesh as possible which means as little material as they can get away with."
I'm in!

What the fuck is wrong with NBC? You would think someone in the production would surely provide a translator on the commentator team. More than half of the stuff they said or announced during the open ceremony just flies over with no explanation of any kind by the shit Today team. Fucking translate some or have a translator on the ready. Is that too much to ask?

Highlight of the Opening Ceremony : Hot Estonian blond identical triplet marathoners.

They are believed to be the first identical triplets to compete together in the Olympics. Ya think?

Wish Costas and Dick Enberg (if he was still working at NBC) did the broadcast.

If anyone still does not own a HD set the Olympics were made for HD with all those gorgeous shots of Rio.
