Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Rio

The Sochi and the 1984 LA games had the best mascots.

Get ready for the new Katy Perry Olympic anthem.

Interesting...new FIBA rule. Shot clock goes to 14 off a recovered missed shot.

I used to run a shot clock in college. Would have driven me crazy.

Nice start for USA MBB. D was very nice. Really good inside. Shooting could be better but when they get settled into one venue, that should come.

Is that just offensive rebounds, or both?

Offensive. Helps USA. Not sure why they put that rule in.

They beat the Select Team by 4. The Select Team would probably win every Olympic game by 20+.

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Rio

Off topic but Los Angeles is in the running as one of the finalists to host the 2024 games.

It has been awhile and there is probably a generation of people now who have never seen the U.S. host the Olympics since the last one was 1996.

I hope someday football becomes an Olympic sport. Maybe with all of these games in London and China that might happen?

Imagine Tom Brady leading Team USA with Aaron Rodgers as his backup and Julio Jones and Beckham split wide right and Antonio Brown in the slot with AP and Leveon Bell in the backfield?

You can go 2 tights ends with Gronk and Jimmy Graham.

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Rio

Opening ceremonies is this Friday.

I'll try to catch some of it, but the parade of nations isn't the most thrilling way to spend 3+ hours on a Friday night.

After I watched the latest Real Sports which focused on the corruption of the IOC and how the Olympics has actually been detrimental to some of these countries, I've really soured on the whole spectacle.

If you have HBO, you absolutely must watch it. It will really change your opinion about the Olympics. They did a great job.

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Rio

One of the worst things about living in the West is that you NEVER get to watch the Olympics live, even when the events are broadcast live in the rest of the country. They prefer their "plausibly live" telecast over the real thing and they like to pretend nobody has an internet connection or a radio. It's bad enough when the Olympics are half-way around the world and events take place in the wee small hours of the morning here, but in this case, they're right in Prime Time and we'll still have to avoid the internet and crawl lines on CNN and ESPN.

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Rio

^^^ My guess is all those soccer broadcasts are probably going to be done from NBC's Connecticut studios.

The announcers are going to be in studio and they'll put graphics there off the raw video feed. A colleague of mine just flew there a few days ago to work on these broadcasts.

I wouldn't think the NBCSN, CNBC, etc are delayed, are they? The NBC (especially prime time packaged) broadcast yes, but not the alternate channels, right?

Re: 2016 Summer Olympics - Rio

CBS and ABC would do the same thing if they have the rights.

Glad FOX does not have it since they would would make Joe Buck the centerpiece of the broadcast.

I ignore sports talk radio and try to avoid hearing the results before the primetime coverage.

ESPN wouldn't. FOX wouldn't have either.

Just pray that the streaming works this year. It was a total failure for London but worked quite well for Sochi. And now they have a fully functioning app for streaming devices which is an upgrade from Sochi.

Correct.

So basically if you're on the west coast, if you want to watch swimming, track (the main events), and beach volleyball live (at least what NBC airs in primetime), you're fucked (unless you stream). Otherwise, no different. Gymnastics and diving (the other typical primetime events) will be tape delayed for all.
