The August 2014 Pro Wrestling Thread: SummerSlam

WWE holds its 27th annual SummerSlam show on Sunday, August 17th from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

At this point, the card looks like this...
John Cena defends the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Brock Lesnar
Bray Wyatt takes on Chris Jericho
Stephanie McMahon goes against Brie Bella
Jack Swagger versus Rusev in a flag match

Rumors of Randy Orton vs Roman Reigns, and a Fatal Four-Way match for the Tag Team Championship are also floating around.

Nothing about Dean Ambrose vs Seth Rollins? I like the gimmick about Ambrose interfering whenever Rollins tries to cash in the MitB.

What will be the name of the new tag team of Kingston and Big E? Something mildly offensive, no doubt.

Can someone explain how the WWE Network can possibly have lost 128,000 subscribers when the initial 6 month commitment isn't even up? I can't believe I haven't seen this questioned anywhere.

Mostly people whose credit cards expired or changed numbers. Vince said in the conference call they planned for some of this to happen and will try to fix the issue in the future.

You'll get the service and you keep paying for 6 months. However, you can cancel at any time, which will keep them from charging you for month 7.

Re: The August 2014 Pro Wrestling Thread: SummerSlam

WWE really should have saved Bautista's return until now. I have a feeling with the hype around GotG's release (and with the Daniel Bryan/Rumble/WrestleMania issue out of the picture) his return would have went over much better if they had timed it for this month. He might have even gotten the face pop they originally intended... could have booked him in a SummerSlam match with Kane, for instance.

Just seems like an insanely large amount of subscriptions to go through issues like that.

They've already got 5 or 6 guys who are inter-changeable ( big guys or with muscles)so there was no need for Bautista.

I agree, but if they were going to do it in first place it would have made more sense now instead of back in January.

I'm really loving Dean Ambrose right now, it's funny his theme sounds like Stone Cold's.

Yeah, I agree. Either way it's not a good look for next month when people are "allowed" to cancel.

Re: The August 2014 Pro Wrestling Thread: SummerSlam

Interesting news for Canadians. The WWE Network is coming to Canada, where it will be a premium cable channel. WWE signed a 10 year deal with Rogers, who will be handling distribution of the Network up north.

I guess that's cool, but not quite as versatile as the Network down here.

Looks like the Network price here in the states will be $19.99 per month with no commitment. Or the $9.99 per month deal. Looks like they added a lump sum payment option for that.

Where are you getting that they lost 128k? Last report I saw said they had somewhere in the 700k range fur subs, which is more than the last time they gave numbers. (I've been out of the news cycle for the last week or so dealing with home renovation and computer issues)

161,000 signed up in the last quarter, and 128,000 cancelled, so the number has only grown by 33,000 since wrestlemania.

Re: The August 2014 Pro Wrestling Thread: SummerSlam

I think I have mine set to auto-renew. If not, no big deal.

I hope the plan at SummerSlam isn't to further push Super Cena. I've heard even he thinks it's a bit ridiculous at this point. The only problem is that Reigns is nowhere near the level he needs to be champ, Daniel Bryan is out indefinitely, and Punk seems to officially be history with WWE.

How the hell do you find your account info? If you want to change credit card or anything else. After 6 months is done, will it just stop?

I'm not sure which device you're using. But on the PC, you just log into the Network, click on "My Account" (in the upper right corner), click on "Billing Information", and that will tell you how long you're signed up until (and whether you're on autorenew or not).

One little glitch that I've seen, that is maybe causing your confusion, is that if I just log into WWE.com and click on my profile it doesn't have the Network information. I had to access the Network on my computer first before that material showed up in my profile.

Meh Batista should just call it quits as a wrestler if you ask me. He looked really out of shape in his last run and honestly even in his prime he was never anything that spectacular. He only had an okay run because he was around during a pretty big down period for wrestling/WWE. He may have a bit of an acting career ahead of him if he chooses the right parts and he's obviously got the role of Drax for a while to come most likely.

Re: The August 2014 Pro Wrestling Thread: SummerSlam

Well the annual Wrestlemania Special on NBC is tonight - 7:00 pm ET-8:00 pm ET - as a lead-in to the NFL Hall Of Fame Game - Buffalo Bills vs New York Giants. The special will show the opening segment with Hogan, Austin and the Rock as well as the The Undertaker vs Brock Lesner and John Cena vs Bray Watt matches.

Unfortunately since the Hall Of Fame features the Buffalo Bills, our NBC station (WGRZ-TV-Channel 2) here in Buffalo, NY will be doing a special Buffalo Bills season preview special during the 7:00 pm ET-8:00 pm ET hour. I usually don't watch these specials but this one I'll watch - as its supposed to be include sit-down interviews with Jim Kelly whose battling cancer and Andre Reed who this past weekend was inducted into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame.

So we here in Buffalo, NY area (as well as Rochester, NY area as they are getting the special as well) will be seeing the Wrestlemania Special - Monday morning - 1:00 am ET-2:00 am ET. Thats if coverage of the football game ends at 11:00 pm ET. GO Bills! Congrats Andre Reed on being inducted into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame! and more important - Get Well Soon Jimbo! Beat Cancer!
