re: Aaron Hernandez - Worse Since O.J.? [Update: DEAD]

I would have thought Raiders topped the list but then took a step back and on second though, it would be Raiders FANS

Chargers ranking is sorta bunk. I think those numbers are probably repeat arrests by Vincent Jackson and Shawne Merriman

Kind of amusing how the Chargers, Chiefs and Broncos are all well ahead of the Raiders.

And that doesn't even include Jovan Belcher's murder/suicide.

re: Aaron Hernandez - Worse Since O.J.? [Update: DEAD]

Finally, the Titans are near the top of the list on something! Of course that makes sense since they still employ Kenny Britt and had Pacman Jones when he was still in thug/gangster mode. They also had Albert Haynesworth for a majority of his career.

I expect the Rams to be among the league leaders in arrests now that Fisher is coaching there.

I wonder if the Patriots will remove Hernandez off their 2012 highlight film?

It don't make any sense it's quite baffling. I have seen celebrities make terrible choices but this guy's choice is way out there. Psycho life indeed.

Baffling indeed. What was this guy so afraid of that he felt murder was the only way out?

Wasn't there rumors that the guy he killed had knowledge of a double murder that Hernandez may have also been behind?

re: Aaron Hernandez - Worse Since O.J.? [Update: DEAD]

I think the NFL minimum salary is $375,000.

What's the arrest rate for all US citizens/residents making at least $375,000?

re: Aaron Hernandez - Worse Since O.J.? [Update: DEAD]

Bengals #1. As expected, especially since we're going all the way back to when Riverfront Stadium was still standing. The mid-2000's were particularly comical, the # of stories that kept coming from the same team. And these don't count the stupid crap Chad OchoJohnson has recently pulled, or that school teacher cheerleader who got busted for sleeping with one of her students.

I wonder what the #s look like for recent history?

According to the US Census Bureau, there were a total of 11,062,600 arrests in 2009 with a population of 247,526,916. That is 4.47%.

US Census in 2011 estimated the black population at 13.1% with 3,027,153 arrests, that would extrapolate to a 9.34%.

US Census in 2011 estimated the white population to be 78.1% with 7,389,208 arrests that would extrapolate to 3.82%.

NFL arrest rate: 2.86%
US general population arrest rate: 4.47%
US black population arrest rate: 9.34
US white population arrest rate: 3.82%

So... it seems like the NFL has better arrest rates than the general US population, the black population... and all you white folks out there.

Some facts to put things in perspective. Now will anyone's bias/thoughts change, or will people still make judgement on NFL players as a whole?

I had no ideas what the numbers will be. It was an interesting exercise. Of course, maybe I did the math wrong. Also, I don't know the breakdowns... if the arrests were for violent crimes vs petty crimes, etc.
Well, if your numbers are correct, my takeaway is that rich people don't get arrested as much - regardless of race. I guess they can afford lawyers or better lawyers.

Thanks for doing that work, it is indeed very interesting to look at. But this is where the numbers lose me. NFL players aren't holding up liquor stores or stealing cars. Their crimes are very rarely motivated by money.

NFL players mostly commit DUIs or possession of illegal firearms. Then of course on the extreme end are the violent crimes.

Yeah, players goes to the clubs and bars after games to drink the pain away. Why they would bother driving themselves when they can easily afford alternate means of transportation is beyond me.

That answers the question I asked earlier. People are treating this as some kind of epidemic (banning for a player for life upon an arrest????? ), when it's clearly not.

It's Arpeggi. I assume he'd prefer we just cut to the chase and ban all black people from the NFL but he realizes that would be a tough sell.

Maybe not an "epidemic" but I don't know why the apples to apples comparison has to be NFL to the entire country. If you compared the NFL to the entire country in that income bracket, I suspect the NFL wouldn't come out looking too great in that comparison.

There's an expectation that people with nothing to lose will commit more crimes. I don't know anybody in the NFL in that category of "nothing to lose."

re: Aaron Hernandez - Worse Since O.J.? [Update: DEAD]

What kind of crimes? Murder? OK.

DWIs? I don't see that being a class thing (though convictions are due to the quality of lawyering you can obtain).

How many of these arrests are of the later variety?

 #81 or #85 Hernandez jerseys purchased from the New England Patriots ProShop
ONLY are eligible for the jersey exchange.

So if you bought a #81 or #85 Hernandez jersey at Sports Authority or Modell's, you're stuck with it. You can only do the trade in if you originally bought your jersey at the New England Patriots ProShop. For everyone who said this jersey exchange was very classy, do you still think that?
