Re: Super Bowl XLVII - 49ers vs. Ravens

I'll tell you what, I am really looking forward to this Super Bowl. Great matchup, compelling storylines, and most importantly NO PATRIOTS!

I'm rooting for the 49ers, but I won't be horribly disappointed if the Ravens win. I'm not a 49ers fan, and I got REALLY tired of seeing them in the Super Bowl so often in the 80's and 90's, but it's been a long time so it's kind of nice to see a different team in there (one that hasn't been there for a while).

Joe Flacco, though, has really silenced his critics over the last couple of weeks. The guy has quietly developed into a top notch NFL quarterback.

This should be a great Super Bowl. The Harbaugh Bowl. The HarBowl. The Bro Bowl. Ray Lewis' final game. Compelling stuff.

I agree. It's a great matchup.

I'm also inclined to add Randy Moss to that list. I'd rather see him retire with one ring than see Lewis retire with two.

Favorite name I've heard: The Harbaughcalypse.

Re: Super Bowl XLVII - 49ers vs. Ravens

Of course you want to see Moss retire with one ring. He plays for the Niners now.

Did you want to see Moss retire with a ring when he 'mooned' the Packers crowd.....or when he played for the Pats?

Yup...lifetime Niners fan. The first football game I ever saw was "The Catch" game in 79, and I never fell off the wagon.

As far as Moss' antics go, I hated the Packers and generally like the Pats, so...yeah...those were good times.

I think he's been more dominant at his position than anybody taking the field in the Super Bowl, and he's been so close to getting one. He's also been by all accounts a class act this year against many predictions. It's the best story nobody is talking about.

Re: Super Bowl XLVII - 49ers vs. Ravens

Then I want to see Ed Reed win a ring since he's been more dominant at safety than anyone in the last decade.

As for Randy Moss and predictions he wouldn't be a class act this season....who was predicting this? I think everyone forgot he was in SF at the start of the season. And he better be a class act. He's not the stud he once was so nobody would put up with any bullshit. So if it's a story nobody is talking about, it's because there was no story to begin with.

Okay Mr. lifetime Niners fan, "The Catch" happened in 1981... not 1979.

Nice 'catch.'

Yep. January, 1982.

And that catch didn't seal the game, either. The Cowboys were moving down the field at will headed for the winning TD when Danny White and the center had a bad exchange and the Niners recovered the fumble. If not for that fumble the Cowboys likely win the game and then the Super Bowl (that Bengals team would not have beaten the 1981 Cowboys team).

And Everson Walls didn't even try to defend the pass that led to The Catch. He thought the ball was overthrown and was uncatchable. BIG mistake.

First Super Bowl in a while where I don't have a rooting interest (I dislike both teams). But since John is the less-smug of the two brothers, I suppose I'll be pulling for the Ravens.

I don't really know about John but Jim seems like a pretty laid back guy.

I wish Dick Enberg did this game but that time has passed

What happened to Aldon Smith? He was on pace to break the sack record but he has not had a sack in 4 games and the Niners don't pressure the QB.

They have to find a way to fix the pass rush.

My mistake on year...was my first game though. I was 9 years old.

79 was stuck in my head because it's the year Montana was drafted.

Aldon stopped that steak when Justin Smith went out with the injury in the Pats game. Justin saw the bulk of the double teams.

I'm still not sure Justin is 100%, but he has a couple of weeks.

Re: Super Bowl XLVII - 49ers vs. Ravens

The thought from some beat writers is that Aldon has been playing through an injury and that is the reason for his lack of sacks.

Yeah...memory for years is apparently the first to go.

Never in a million years I thought I would agree with Raven, but let's go Raven and the Ravens! It seems like destiny! (Not a fan of either team, but Baltimore is lesser of two evils).

Funny thing is that I was in a room full of Cowboys fans, and I think I was pulling for the Niners just to be a contrary kid. After watching Joe Montana make that off balance throw to Clark, I was hooked, and Joe's still my favorite player of all time.

My other formative 49ers memory was Super Bowl 19 against the Dolphins. We had some kind of prize in school for who could get the game score the closest, and I was literally the only kid to pick the Niners to win at all since Marino was all the rage that year. I don't remember what the prize was, but I do remember getting to gloat. I think I was in fifth grade, but I'm sure somebody will do the math and correct me.

Still hate the Cowboys and Giants, and to a lesser extent the Packers.

Even before that, one of the corners had a game saving horse collar tackle on Drew Pearson. If he doesn't make that play, Pearson is gone.

Had to look it up...Eric Wright.
