Re: Junior Seau is dead
Quite shocked by this news. He was a pretty damn great player.
As for the comment about TMZ, well they're way more reliable than Twitter. |

NBC reported the same thing on Nightly News.

Grew up in San Diego and (trying hard to still be) a Chargers fan.
Will be missed. Thanks Junior. RIP.

I'm glad I got to see him play in San Diego when I lived in Southern California for a little bit. |

Re: Junior Seau is dead
RIP.
My most vivid memory of Junior has to be when he broke his arm in his first year with the Pats. The video is much like the Theismann leg break, just freaky to watch.

Re: Junior Seau is dead
Sadly, I've been expecting this ever since Seau drove off a (small) cliff a year and a half ago.
He had been arrested for domestic assault the night before, and though he claimed that he fell asleep at the wheel a lot of people in San Diego (including me) thought it was a suicide attempt (the cliff just wasn't high enough). Then his rambling, almost nonsensical speech at the Q for his induction into the Chargers Hall of Fame last season was also alarming. He covered up whatever was bothering him by smiling and acting extra friendly. Most of his friends have said that there were no signs of anything wrong as recently as just a few days ago. John Carney said that he talked to Seau shortly after the driving off the cliff incident and Seau convinced him that he really did just fall asleep and it was an accident. I think his friends wanted to believe him. It's hard to believe that such a happy looking, friendly, outgoing guy could really be that depressed inside. So they didn't believe it. Seau covered it up. I've been listening to a lot of interviews, and it would seem that Seau didn't want anyone to know how he felt. But from the outside and getting the details of that, "Accident," (as reported) - it didn't add up. When I first heard that Junior was dead I wasn't the least bit surprised. I was saddened by the news, but not surprised. I really wish that he would have asked for help, but that wasn't in his personality. Maybe it was pride, maybe he didn't want to worry others, who knows? Junior was the one who always offered help - but he'd never ask for it, and that's a shame. He was a great asset to the San Diego community. He did a ton of charity work, and he did a lot more to help individuals out when cameras weren't around than most people knew. He made other people happy. Even when he wasn't. It's just a sad, sad story. One of the measuring sticks I've always used to tell people how great my high school's football team was while I was there (and the year after) was how they owned Seau's Oceanside team. Even back then Junior was a great, dominating player, but Vista dominated that team. That was a source of pride for Panther fans. The '85 Panther team was crowned the State Champion. The '86 team was just about as good. Both times they dominated a very good Oceanside team, despite Seau's presence on the field. That said a lot. Now it just makes me kind of sad. Not only is the great Panther QB Sal Aunese long since gone (he died from stomach cancer at age 21 while at Colorado), but Oceanside's most famous player in those games is gone as well. No one would have believed it in '85.

Re: Junior Seau is dead
This is what really bothers me. No matter how bad things get you just don't quit on your kids. After thinking it over it's hard for me to have any sympathy for someone who took the easy way out and left his kids without a father.
I feel for his kids. I know I may get crap for posting that but I have kids and couldn't bear to think that they would think I quit on them.

Re: Junior Seau is dead
Update on Seau's brain study revealed that Junior did in fact have CTE. I don't know much about the condition but it seems to be linked to depression, dementia and memory loss. Unfortunately, this may be the reason Junior killed himself. His brain just wasn't right.
