And according to the playoff percentages, the Royals are 5 times more likely to reach the postseason.

Re: MLB Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Well, they do have a lot of young talent and it could be their year.

Seriously though, I think they determine that mostly based on RA and RS, so the Twins -37 has them in last place for playoff odds.

Re: MLB Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Darvish looked really impressive last night. Offense just couldn't get anything going. Although failing in that bases loaded, no outs situation was a killer.

Kuroda looked good too. Can't really complain about holding the Rangers to 2 runs. Bullpen did their job too which is nice considering they didn't use Soriano, Robertson or Mo.

I'm also sure that every Yankee and Twin fan here was just assuming that Nathan would blow it in the 9th.

The Pirates and Rockies are playing a doubleheader today and get to use a 26-man roster (adding an extra guy). Apparently the latest CBA added a special rule to allow for it. It was news to me. Link

Re: MLB Wednesday, April 25, 2012

I was worried about Nathan coming in too.

Darvish looked really good. That's the pitcher we've been expecting to see, and according to him, he still doesn't have his command really down yet. His insane number of pitches were working though, and he even pitched from the stretch with nobody on at times which I thought was funny. Kuroda looked pretty good too. Other than that pitch to Kinsler, Texas couldn't get anything going.

The best thing about Darvish going 8.1 is that The Rangers didn't have to use their bullpen (for more than one pitch). Feldman is scheduled to start today due to the double harder messing up the rotation, but he'll only go 3-4 innings before we go to the bullpen. Everybody should be fresh again after the Thursday off-day.

Yeah, I heard about it when the deal was signed. Sort of cool, but sucks for the guy who is called up and then is sent right back down.

I got invited to the Phils/Dbacks game today. Hamels vs. Cahill. I'm expecting a well pitched, low scoring game, but I'm sure it'll be a 10-7 affair.

No-hitter alert. Pittsburgh's James McDonald has one through 6 innings against the Rockies.

And that did the trick. The Rockies have a hit in the 7th.

A friend of mine is trying to tell me that the Marlin's are averaging 29,000 attendance per home game. Please tell me that he is full of it?

29,442 according to ESPN. It will drop as the year goes on. Their most recent home games were against the Cubs and they averaged under 25,000. I had heard that the only sold out game in Miami so far this season was the home opener but the box score for the game on ESPN.com lists it as 98.9% full.

I'd be curious to know how many season tickets they have sold in the new stadium since they sold less than 2000 season tickets a year in the old stadium.

You haven't heard? They have a great farm system and young talent. The SABR community also loves them - the Fangraphs ranking system has them as the 7th best team in all of baseball based on current performance to date.

Once Eric Hosmer starts throwing 95 and develops a curve, slider and changeup and gives up this whole first base thing, they will be unbeatable. Until then people seem to forget Jonathan Sanchez and Bruce Chen are the aces of the staff.

While they aren't as bad as their 3-14 record makes them seem, somehow they became the trendy pick his year to surprise people.

Is that right...35 runs scored for the Pirates? Damn impressive to have been able to manage 7 wins with that. Get that team some offense and they could be scary.

That's not really accurate (unless I'm missing something). The Royals are about 10th in hitting, 20th in pitching, but 1st in fielding going by Fangraphs rankings. I don't think anybody is saying they're the 7th best at anything... although their record is a lot worse than their Pythagorean would suggest (i.e. they should be at 6-11 instead of 3-14).

Neyer had a decent column about this the other day: http://mlb.sbnation.com/2012/4/23/29...yals-bad-start

Nope. They did an MRI as part of the physical after the trade anyway. They did a more detailed MRI this time around (dye contrast), so it was either something they couldn't pick up on a previous MRI, or something that worsened over time.

The only good new is no damage to the rotator cuff and it is not a capsule issue (which is I think what Johan Santana had and is usually a longer recovery)

Carptenter's replacement, Lance Lynn, goes eight innings against the Cubs, and improves to 4-0, as the Cards avoid the sweep.

Haha, thanks for linking that. I was scouring fangraphs trying to find where anybody had said anything about the Royals been 7th at anything
Pretty ridiculous thing to print, but then again, when you've got an unbiased "system" the least you can do is stand behind it, even when it makes you look stupid.
