Re: 2012 PGA Tour/Golf (non-majors) thread

Not trying to be snarky but does Augusta really care about the state of Tiger's game? They sell out every year regardless of how Tiger is playing.

CBS is probably happier. I assume even The Masters gets better ratings when Tiger is in contention. Augusta probably couldn't care less.

CBS doesn't sell the ad time. Like I said - Augusta pays CBS to air the Masters. It's a unique arrangement. Augusta sells the ad time. You'll notice that CBS doesn't promote their programming during a Masters telecast. August essentially controls everything about it.

Good day, bad day for me. Tiger won. However, Freddy won on the Champions Tour.

Was going to pick Hunter Mahan for the Masters but I usually don't pick the guy who wins the week before. With his World Match Play win and his win today he's playing as good as anyone right now.

Re: 2012 PGA Tour/Golf (non-majors) thread

You know buzz is starting to build around the net that Tiger caught a pretty good break from the mid 90s and then on for about 10 years because there was no good young golfers arising. With Rickie, Rory, etc. I'm starting to wonder if that might be somewhat of a case. Still, nobody does what Tiger did from 97 on easily. Just thinking the competition level might have helped him a bit during his run.

Great win by Ricky yesterday. That wedge shot was amazing, even if he wasn't under a ton pressure.

Rory Mac missed the cut at the Players Championship at Sawgrass. Tiger had a poor first round but he's looking much better today and should make it to the weekend easily.

ESPN's golf coverage of Players Championship at Sawgrass: Tiger survives cut. Tiger...........! Tiger........!, etc.

Will ESPN cease their "golf coverage" when Tiger is no longer on the scene?

Nice shot off the tee, Harris! I'm sure that guy's head did not help your lie. I don't think anyone yelled fore left.

Fowler continuing his hot play. Takes the outright lead.

Nice to see Kuchar get the win, but it's too bad nobody else was able to push it at the very end.

The answer is yes. ESPN only shows highlights of the 'second tier' sports when there is a big name player that is attached to it. Now of course ESPN will show highlights of the 4 Majors and the Ryder Cup, but if Mickelson or Tiger aren't in the hunt on any other tournament, they rarely show highlights.

This is why I hate ESPN, and don't watch any studio show anymore because of this crap. No matter who is winning a Golf Tournament, they should get the same amount of highlights every week.

Great win for Kuchar. The Players is as big a win as either Open or the PGA, IMO.

I hope Ricky can keep up this level of play. His short game has been unreal the past few weeks.

Nah, try as they might to push the Players, it don't mean shit. All 4 majors have an entirely different feel the entire week. The Players might be the 5th most important tournament of the year but it's a distant 5th. All 4 majors are in a completely different stratosphere.

Re: 2012 PGA Tour/Golf (non-majors) thread

I can perhaps buy the tournament being in the company of the PGA Championship, but it's not even close in stature to either of the Opens, particularly from an international perspective. To me the only thing that makes it special is one quirky hole.

Re: 2012 PGA Tour/Golf (non-majors) thread

I always thought the TPC Sawgrass should have been the site for the PGA Championship every year like Augusta is for the Masters. The Masters is sold to the fans because Augusta is a beautiful course and the back 9 is as good as it gets in golf. The US Open is always sold with high rough and fast greens, and the British Open is sold with the weather, the wind, the rain, and the elements. What sells the PGA?

The PGA Championship ends up being the least interesting of the 4 majors, and I thought TPC Sawgrass would be the perfect niche for that major because it is beloved by the fans and players. How great would the 17th hole be on Sunday of a major seeing every player holding that club alittle tighter worrying they wont hit the green!

A 69 for Tiger today at the Memorial putting him one shot off the lead. Not so good for Rory Mac though with a 79 and the 3rd straight cut he's missed.

Too bad Tiger and Sabbatini weren't paired together.

Rory missing 3 straight cuts. This is why I laugh about these proclamations of the next great thing. Lets see one of these young guys get a 2nd major first.

Tiger has his putter going today so far. -3 on his round thru 6. Now tied for 2nd, 2 back.

Speaking of one of the "next great things," Creamsicle Fowler has an interesting card through 6 holes: zero pars, 2 birdies, 3 bogeys, 1 double-bogey.
