Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Phew, everyone made weight.

Thought I'd explain some of my picks since I'm expecting alot of upsets.

Maia/Masvidal- I'm actually rooting for Maia to win. He's such a class act and deserves to fight for the title. This fight shouldn't be happening in the first place. But I think this fight is going to look eerily similar to Jacare/Whittaker. I thought Whittaker would win that fight and he did. I think Masvidal can win for the same reasons Whittaker won: clear advantage on the feet and great takedown defense.

Joanna/Andrade- Joanna is awesome, but I think her chin is a weakness. She's been knocked down and rocked in fights before, and she's never faced someone who hits as hard as Andrade. Andrade is basically the female John Lineker, or even a mini Cyborg. She's strong and durable, hits hard and can brawl unlike any other strawweight. I think Joanna isn't going to be able to handle her volume and punching power.

Alvarez/Poirer- Simply put, Alvarez is facing one of the hardest hitters in the division and he get rocked in most of his fights.

Frankie/Yair- I think the physical advantages will just be too much for Frankie. Yair is much taller and longer than Frankie and has an amazing kicking game, so he'll be able to neutralize Frankie's wrestling.

Shitty news from the press conference today. Garbrandt vs Dillashaw in serious jeopardy because Garbrandt has a back injury.

TJ says if the fight gets cancelled he wants to fight Mighty Mouse at 125.

Hell, TJ vs MM is a way more interesting fight for me than TJ vs GB. Oh and the UFC press conference was gold. Jones still up to his old tricks, and DC still not realizing he's getting played like a fiddle.

Round 2 of Alvarez/Poirier was a fargin' war before it got stopped. Some really good fights in the prelims tonight.

Yeah, that was a great fight. Too bad about the unintentional illegal knee.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

2011 JDS would have put Stipe into a coma. Instead he looked like a latter day Big Nog. Someone needs to give him the talk.

Frankie/Yair was a sick fight until it was stopped.

Good card tonight, looking forward to Maia/Woodley. I'm really hoping Maia can become champion. He's 39, its now or never.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IX

Aljamain Sterling vs Renan Barao booked for UFC 213. I like that fight. Bantamweight is a really interesting division right now. Its a shame Dillashaw/Garbrandt was called off. I really hope Dillashaw/ Mighty Mouse isn't a title fight if it happens. Benavidez has done more than enough to earn a title shot.
