re: The Official Boxing Thread

Props to Jim Grey! All is forgiven for the Pete Rose interview!

But yeah, Mares lucked out tonight for two reasons:
1) Joseph wasn't in his best shape
2) Mora's family was obviously held at gun-point back home.

I'm not familiar with Mora, but I swear I've read Dan Rafael call him out on many occasions. The monday scorecard should be a great read.

I loved the 'your way off'. I wonder if Larry Merchant would have been as confrontational had this been an HBO fight

That's too bad. He was always a good, honest ringleader with the telecasts. Wonder who will replace him.

Nothing too special tonight, but at least there's finally something on HBO tonight with Berto & Z-man (The Gary Rusell jr bout is said to be televised too)

re: The Official Boxing Thread

Main event turned out to be better than expected---While it lasted. I was really surprised that the ref (Or even the HBO team) didn't even speculate to see how that cut and mouse occured. Berto always plants his head directly in front of his opponent's face whenever he ties them up after throwing a flurry, afterall...

damn, Lucas Matthysee is out of his fight w Morales on the Mayweather/Ortiz ppv. Morales will still fight, but no opponent yet.

Also, the ppv is 70 bucks in HD (and will be availible in several hundred movie theaters for 18-25 bucks

re: The Official Boxing Thread

Eh, Lucas probably wised up knowing that there would be no way he could win a decision against Morales. Of course, this means Morales will now fight someone MUCH easier and win that bogus title....Speaking of which, shouldn't the damn WBC just rename itself the MBC by now? (Mexican Boxing Council)

Anyway, interesting weekend lined up. Starting with ShoBox, Vitali/Adamek (First airing will be in the afternoon as usual. With a replay at night) and Gamboa/De Leon afterwards.

Also tomorrow, ESPN3.com plans on airing the Breidis Prescott (the man who knocked out Amir Khan in 1 round) vs Paul McCloskey live from Ireland. Coverage begins at 3:45 ET (the Klitchko/Adamek fight is supposed to start at 4:45 on HBO)

Didn't see it, but I see that McCloskey emerged victorious. From the sounds of things, it certainly was more competitive than what flooded the TV airwaves over here tonight.

who?

Also, Erik Morales' new opponent for Sept 17 is Pablo Cesar Cano. Yes you can say "who" too. And its still for a vacant title (because the WBC stripped Tim Bradley of the belt

Mormeck was the Cruiser champ, lost his belt to Haye. He's beaten Oquendo and Ibragimov as a heavy = title shot~~~!. Vlad should destroy him.

re: The Official Boxing Thread

gotta love Bob Arum (re: Pac/Mayweather and the infamous drug testing)

""I'm not optimistic," Arum said. "I think Mayweather will look for a way not to do the fight. I smell the initial drum beat of 'You're not allowed to train in the Philippines' because of [who oversees] the testing. Once Mayweather says that, he can go f--- himself. Then it becomes a major political issue when he says Manny can't train in his home country. Besides, nobody would subject themselves to that type of restriction."

What time do you think the actual Ortiz/Mayweather bout will start at? I'm going to be late to a friend's house who's ordering it but would like to get an estimate on when that fight may start at?
