Kirkland got knocked out by a guy who according to Lampley "has no power"

re: The Official Boxing Thread

hell of a fucking fight. Both gave it their all. The judges gave it to maidana 116-112 2 times and a draw. Hbo is apparently re airing the fight sometime next week, and it is def worth watching

re: The Official Boxing Thread

Well, who knew? This ended up being probably the most spirited PPV I've ever bought!

To tell you the truth, I wasn't that surprised about Kirkland's loss. During the ring introductions, I noticed 3 things about Kirkland:
-Too pale
-Too dry
-No Anne Wolfe

The "Bulldozer-Kirkland" that I saw before had a correction on all 3 of those things. I obviously saw a completely different looking Kirkland tonight which didn't quite create the monumental upset that was to come, but it was certainly shock-worthy enough for many others.

And what can you say about Morales? It was certainly fitting enough for a Rocky Balboa-esque quote to fill the night, "Maidana may have won the fight, but Morales won the event". Actually, there were enough moments between rounds 7-9 where Morales could've finished the drained-Maidana, but age & rustiness prevented it from happening. I was quite suprised that Maidana got that 2nd wind very late in the closing rounds to win them, but then again, this is a guy who got up from a combination to the body (Against Khan) to go the distance.

As I said, Extremely spirited Main Event this was. I'm looking very much looking forward to the HBO replay. Like Rypro said, it's worth watching.

Any news on Kirkland's trainer who collapsed? I can't find any info yet.

BTW, forgot to mention that Morales didn't seem as eager to go on with this career in the post-fight interview.

Can you blame him?!

Can't wait to watch that again and score it myself.

BTW, to Robert Guerrero! My favorite active fighter.

Guerrero does seem to be getting better and better with each showing lately. Him & Marquez will be a beauty.

Yeah, I'm really excited to see what he can do now that he can fully focus on boxing (his wife is thankfully cancer free atm).

Raf now says that it'll come on the HBO Zone channel (Saturday at midnight) He also said that Vitali/Adamek is set to go in June. Finally! The Klits against name-opponents!

Thanks for the correction. At least Haye will have a puncher's chance against the weaker-chinned brother (But like Pac, Vlad's chin seems to have gotten stronger with age)

And per Rafael, it looks like both fights will air on HBO and air live

And bad news, looks like Soto vs Attillon 2 is off, which puts a big blow on the Pac/Mosley card, as that was the one fight i was actually looking forward to watching

It's good that they'll be back on HBO. It didn't sound too promising for them to return after Ross Greenburg ax'd them in recent bouts.

Soto/Attillon was indeed a big-selling point for the card. Now it's all up to Dwyer to spread his word!

re: The Official Boxing Thread

Another fightin' weekend:

FNF:
Ivan Popoca vs. Ruslan Provodnikov (Ruslan's fun to watch)

HBO:
Amir Khan vs. Paul McCloskey
Andre Berto vs. Victor Ortiz

SHO:
Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Orlando Salido
(Too bad about not having Rocky Martinez on the card as originally planned)

I'm watching Showtime first and saving Berto/Ortiz for late.

Pretty nice showing by Ruslan earlier. He needed that KO highlight.

Oh, if Naturi shows her Naughtons, I might actually watch that first.

Actually, the SHO card doesn't start untill a half-hour later. Might get to see the Khan fight first. But knowing how Showtime loves to kill time with promotional stuff & interviews, I doubt it'll work out.

Naw, fuk that. I still need some to adjust to what I just saw tonight....

Aw, wait. At first, I'll admit to something:

Yes, I actually watched the last 40-or-so-minutes of ^Lottery Ticket (Before the HBO show started) to actually see if Naturi showed something. Somebody else got almost nekkid..But it wasn't her But to be fair, the other chick wasn't that bad. But anyway, the HBO show started, and as Rypro indicated earlier, the bout in England certianly didn't turn out to be nothing special or ground-breaking....But just within an hour later....Something INCREDIBLE was happening elsewhere....

Wait, I still need to get some breath back for this.......

re: The Official Boxing Thread

As i mentioned on twitter, you could tell Lampley wasn't too enthused calling Amir Khan's fight on a monitor against a nobody really. Also, Merchant had the line of the year so far "Stupid, maybe the referee and the doctor thought it was a wine tasting competition" This was also the first time that i can recall that Emanuel Steward actually yelled out 'oh my god' after a nasty punch that wasn't a knockdown. Prob the first time since this (skip to about 6:40, although the entire fight is def worth revisiting)
