re: The Official Boxing Thread

^Good to hear. But I'm sure that Pascall will be much better-prepared this time around.
Hopkins hasn't exactly been a world-beater in rematches either. I expected him to prove a point and dominate Jermaine Taylor the 2nd time around, but he ended up looking 5x worse.

No, but I find a way to watch every meaningful fight, and most that aren't. It just sometimes takes me a while to get to them, which is what makes discussion in this thread so hard.

Looks like We'll have an HBO PPV on April 9th with the main event being Erik "El Terrible" Morales vs Marcos Maidana (who lost a close and very exciting fight against Amir Khan) and the undercard headlined by Robert Guerrero vs Michael Katsidis

I feel bad for Morales. I think Maidana is going to knock his head into the 3rd row.

re: The Official Boxing Thread

I should be asking how the FUNK Morales gets this spotlight, but Mosely & Hopkins are still looming around the coming-months as well. The first half of 2011 is obviously a going-away party for all the senior citizens.
Guerrero/Katsidis should be very interesting. Katsidis continues to be the only fighter I know of who has constantly fought top opposition. One after the other. Amazing.

Next FNF will be in 3-D. Anybody here done that upgrade yet?

Not me. I'm waiting on 3D.

Anyway, at least B-Hop deserves the fight, being that he won the first fight and all.

I have to root for B-Hop. Dude is 46 and hanging with champs almost 20 years younger than him.

Looks like the Saul Alverez (the real star of the Mosley/Mora ppv) vs Matthew Hatton (brother of Ricky) will now be for the vacant WBC Jr Middleweight belt, the same belt that Pac had after beating Margarito, but the WBC stripped him of the belt since he refused to defend it

Ya know, speaking of Margarito, this guy got caught with LOADED gloves and (Just in one year) he got re-licensed to fight and have an opponent lined up (And this was before the Pac match!)

Alfredo Angulo, on the other hand, reportedly got caught living in the country illegally and seems to have recieved a longer ban from boxing than Margarito did. Can someone please explain that one to me? It just puts me on edge because so many of the sport's most thrilling fighters (Ibeabuchi,Valero,Kirkland,Angulo) just seem to keep quickly vanishing in one way or another.

Anyway, hope tonight's fight turns out to be a great one.

Meanwhile, the next Pac runs wild tonight.

I mentioned in the last boxing thread (After seeing Donaire up close at one of his undercard bouts) that the guy really has massive tools. Speed, footwork and accuracy. I still have no idea how well he can handle a punch. But if he just keeps on avoid getting hit, I guess we'll never know.

re: The Official Boxing Thread

Showtime tonight:
Brandon Rios (26-0-19) vs Miguel Acosta (28-3-22)

Rios seems to be the Mel Gibson of boxing at the moment (In case you forgot, he participated in the unkind video mocking Freddie Roach & Parkinsons)

I hope Acosta knocks Rios out

It ended up going the other way. Actually, earlier it looked like Acosta could get him. But Acosta's constantly-fast backpeddling style didn't hold up against Rios' aggression (Who showed a pretty good chin in the process)
The crowd was very kind to Rios (Unlike his last appearance in Dallas) Can it hold up?

Re-watched the replay afterwards. It's actually a better-action fight than I orignally though. Replay comes on Tuesday.

HBO card ought to be great. Read that the Judah ppv is only on ppv because nobody wanted to pay the money they wanted. ESPN offered to have it on FNF but it wasn't enough

Never heard of Adrien Broner before (Or who he's fought) But he's also unbeaten.

Fast, young kid from Cincy. Saw him a few years back on either a Shobox or a FNF card where he was beaten but got the decision.

re: The Official Boxing Thread

I know its a paper championship, but why isn't the Ponce De Leon fight 12 rds?

edit, got it answered by Dan Rafael in his chat
It's not for a world title. Plenty of regional title bouts are 10-rounders.

Good launching pad for Ismayl Sillakh tonight. Paul Williams should take notes on how a tall fighter is supposed to throw combos without getting hit.

Wow, nice memory you got there! I was still cluleless about him and had to look him up at boxer rec. I see that he fought on the (Televised) undercard for Ortiz/Maidana. I obviously remembered the main event more.

Checked out more footage of his KOs at youtube. Cocky lil' guy.

re: The Official Boxing Thread

Well, I believe Quake's word about Broner escaping a robbery the previous time. I scored tonight's fight exactly the same as Harold did.

It's apparent that as long as Broner fights smaller guys, he won't have to worry about getting knocked out....Because that's the only way he can lose.

Bummer for Ricky Hatton for not having his brother's chin. We might have had a helluva fighter with that combination!
