I think Dice-K should just concentrate on becoming the greatest Japanese AAA baseball player ever. I can see him coming in giving up his usual 5 runs over 5 and a third innings and turning it over to the bullpen, who will give up another 4 runs. No thanks. And Alan Embree wants to come back! That's gonna work out great. Who goes in his place? Or could Selig just allow 26 guys on the roster. Would anyone complain? He's been pitching well in Pawtucket, I guess. The PawSox must be in 1st place with Dice-K and Embree tearing it up!

Talk about embarrassing. I think I saw where Pittsburgh has lost 20+ road contests in Milwaukee. Combine that with the demolishings they've suffered at the Brewers' hands this season...wow.

Why aren't the Dodgers-Mets playing a day-night doubleheader? Are they embarassed that there might be alot of empty seats for the first game or is there a possibility of bad weather so they are pushing back the first game?

I think MLB should hold an emergency draft so Baltimore and Pittsburgh can be stocked with MLB players instead of the crap that both teams are carrying on their rosters now. Did they actually think they were going to be competive this season?

I see INF Felipe Lopez of the Cardinals is going on the DL with a right elbow strain(probably from pitching ???). Maybe LaRussa will stop with the one inning pitcher non-sense and let pitchers pitch. If a MLB pitcher can't pitch 3 innings he shouldn't be in the Major Leagues. So it was a long game-let pitchers pitch longer--makes sense-doesn't it? Didn't Kevin Kennedy get fired from the Texas Rangers for pitching Jose Canseco and ruining his arm?

for the record, the games here in AZ start at 1:05pm and 4:05pm, so it's like a day/day doubleheader.

During the recent skid Pirates have been outscored 72-12 (or something like that, too lazy to look it up exactly). Run differential for the season at -82. Baltimore is second at -36. Does BAL play PIT in interleague? More fun stats: during their losses (all) pirates outscored 121-22.

The burning question--do the Orioles catch up and finish with a better record than the Pirates?

Forgot to mention I'm shocked at the 14k attendance figure for Boston/Toronto yesterday. ESPN was jumping around from game-to-game last night and it looked like they might measure the number there by hundreds and not thousands. Even the announcers were talking about how few people were there. Or do they still base attendance on number of tickets sold and not by actual number present?

I saw this coming for years, and that is because MLB relies too much on selling the sport with the Yanks/Sox. This is the problem with big market vs small market, and not having any parity in the league. Sure you reap the rewards of great ratings with the Yanks, but you have to look at the league as a whole, and so many teams know have NO shot from week 1 of the season, and fans arent stupid, they know it. If I were a Pirates, Royals, Orioles fan, why would I waste any money on a team that has no shot at competing, and hasn't been competitive for years.

The NBA is the same way, you have a few select cities with fans that care (LA, Boston, Cleveland, etc), then you have other half of the league of teams with NO shot, and the stadiums are empty. Trust me, I am a Philadelphia Sports fan and the 76ers were getting 7,000 a night, while the Phillies keep selling out.
