I would never bet in a million years that Sakic had ever dropped the gloves.I think the announcer was a tad biased Anyway was a good win for Joe there over Dougie.I totally dont remember that.Come to think of it id forgotten Gilmour had played for the Blackhawks.

Apparently the player is in critical but stable condition. Personally, I think it was a clean hit with the injured player turning his back at the last minute. Hope the kid survives.
Looks like that guy was suspended for the rest of the season.

Edit: Legal hit or not, no way was it worth that length of a suspension.

Liambis has quite the history of suspensions for disciplinary issues and trying to injure guys. The guy is just a pure goon with less than 20 points and 350+ pims in 3 seasons.

The kid shouldn't have turned. On the other hand; there's quite a difference checking guys to take them out of the play and running in from the top of the circles trying to intentionally hurt them. I have no problem with him being gone for the season.

Well, that certainly changes things. Guess it's good he's gone.

On a brighter note, the Sharks win again tonight in Columbus. Nabokov seems to be improving in the Shootout, which is good to see.

Yeah the guy is an absolute piece of crap. This video is just a small example. He goes to drill Tavares when he sees him off balance, on his knees and going into the boards. There's no place for morons like this in the sport.

Wings beat the Sharks in a Shootout. Oh well, it was an entertaining game. Can't complain too much. 5 out of 6 points on the 3-game roadtrip.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Regular Season Thread

Finally watched the Avs Coyotes game last night and saw they are now displaying graphics on the glass during the game, very distracting and I hope not a trend that is going to keep up, but I guess they are doing whatever they need to, in this economy. Is this league wide, any other games/markets doing this?

I have probably watched at least 20 games in full this year and I haven't seen that. Haven't watched any Yotes games though.

The Habs only have one win in regulation but after last night's win over the depleted Bruins, they are 7-0 in OT/shootouts. Go figure...

If the Wings can continue to play like they have for most of the rest of the season, I think it will be almost more incredible than winning 4 Stanley Cups with a tons of high-priced talent.

They lost Samuelsson, Hudler, and Hossa and really need to win 2-1 and 3-2 games now with Chris Osgood and one of the worst back-ups in the league. So, thinking we were doomed and incapable of winning those games didn't seem like a stretch. Then we lose Franzen for most of the season and Filps for 2 months.

But they're not only doing it right now, after a terrible start where we lost 3 games where we were ahead by 2 goals, but Eaves is really impressing and Bertuzzi has actually looked like a good hockey player (who would've "thunk" it?).

It's been well known around these parts for several weeks but since the Leafs have the Toronto media machine they get all the hype. Now even the media has to stand up and take notice that the Canes suck the most!

The number of injuries across the league this season is bordering on the ridiculous. The Pens lost Letang last night and didn't do so well playing with only four healthy D. The loss of Gonchar, like last year, is showing how important he still is to the team. At least most of those injured for the Pens are due back soon.

Add Drury to that list last night after that cheap ass hit by Glenncross.

Martinek blew out his ACL and is gone for the season for the Isles. This guy just can't catch a break.

Add Cam Ward to the list
Quote:
Canes general manager Jim Rutherford said today that goaltender Cam Ward would remain at a Columbus, Ohio, hospital another day and that the team may look to trade or sign another goaltender.

Ward suffered a laceration of the left leg in the first period of the Canes' 3-2 loss at Columbus on Saturday and was taken to Riverside Hospital.

"We'll have to see how it goes," Rutherford said today of Ward's injury and recovery time. "It appears it will be a fairly long period of time."

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Regular Season Thread

^ I read about that Ward injury and when they were reporting it as a "groin injury", and talked about Nash's skate blade, that was SCARY. (Not that this one isn't, but I don't think we need to imagine how bad it could have been.) And Ovechkin has to be one of the biggest blows to not only the Caps (even though they've won 2 in a row), but the league, for right now.

On all my different fantasy teams, I'm having guys drop left and right: Sarge, Geno, Danny Sedin, Darcy Tucker, Bobby "Glass EVERYTHING" Luongo, Marc Savard, Shelley Souray, and Rob Blake, let alone the DTD guys like Gooch, Letang, Jovo, and James Neal. And Elias is just back now. This year is just a train wreck, in terms of injuries, at least early on. Let's hope that as the season progresses, guys can stay healthy so we can see a good playoff run. (Although, if it continues, this should make the time before the trade deadline VERY interesting.)

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Regular Season Thread

It does seem like injuries are up this year, and a lot of big name players are going down. The Sharks got Joe Pavelski back last night after missing all but 2 games with a broken foot. Hopefully Blake won't be out too long. Dan Boyle's minutes are up as a result, and he played 30 minutes against the Pens. I don't think he'll be able to keep that up for long.

The Drury hit wasn't that bad. One of the CBC commentators singled it out as a miscall but, when he saw another angle, wasn't sure if it should have been called. From what I saw, from Glencross' angle it looked like Drury was about to have the puck and, at most, Glencross got a little too proactive. It looked like he was going for a fairly routine shoulder-to-shoulder bump and Drury suddenly turned. Even then, no angle I saw showed conclusive shoulder-to-head contact. Drury may have just fallen badly. The only reason anyone is still talking about that hit is because Drury, a player with a history of concussions, was unlucky enough to get another. Bottom line, bad injuries can happen from innocent plays. Hopefully Drury's back on his feet for the next game.

Torts, of course, trotted it out as a major reason why the Rangers lost. Then he claimed his team played one of their best games yet and it was just Kipper holding back the Ranger storm. That's not exactly the game I saw. Spin and deny.

Personally, I'm a bit disappointed Avery and Phaneuf didn't drop the gloves. That would have been epic, but they were probably both under orders from their respective coaches.

I'm an Islanders fan, I don't care about the Rangers. The hit was dirty. As a Flames fan you can try to spin it however you want. It was a blindsided head shot when Drury didn't even have the puck. And the reason people are still talking about it is cause it's another in the long line of cheap hits this year.

A routine shoulder bump? Yeah, ok
