http://www.longislandpress.com/2009/...n%20Lighthouse

So according to this article Wang has pulled the plug on the Lighthouse project. Many people are skeptical though that a free paper broke this over all the major news and media outlets. According to today's Newsday the majority of Long Islanders are in favor of the project. All the Islanders forums are scrambling trying to find more news on it. If it's true I think the Islanders tenure on LI has come to an end.

The NHL talks with Quebec City now seem a little less unrealistic....

It would be a shame if a team with as much history as the Isles moves due to politics (on both sides).

KC, Quebec, Hamilton, Houston, or wherever shouldn't get their hopes up. Islanders aren't leaving the tri-state area with their giant cable deal, $15 million a season which continues to grow until 2030. No owner would move out of NY and negate that.

The likely scenario is that Wang is squeezing Kate Murray and the Town of Hempstead repubs. even more. If it actually does fall through the next option he has is that they go to Queens in the cleared out Iron Triangle right across from Citi Field.

This will be the season Wings haters have long waited for. They could easily not make the playoffs. It's more and more clear that they've finally found themselves in a transitional year.

The franchise has really spoiled their fans for nearly 2 decades, most of it without a cap, but this will be a real test. Their line up no longer scares anyone...and it shouldn't.

Lidstrom is close to done and Rafalski is not as good as advertised. The have very little talent on the left or right to give Hank and Pavel help scoring-even if Franzen wasn't out for 4 months. Osgood is average or below average and Howard is turning out to be a dud. A lot of guys are really at the end of their careers and guys like Kronwall didn't develop into what they were projected to be.

We'll get a lot of cap relief next season to, hopefully, retool, but I don't see this team making the playoffs. If the veterans somehow pull them up again, they could squeeze into the 7th or 8th spot and lose in the first round in 4 or 5 games.

Not a panicky fan, over-reacting to a bad start, just a realist. After seeing a lot of games and looking at a lot of other teams, I really don't think they're one of the top 8 teams in the West.

The Hawks, meanwhile, are incredibly fun to watch, but damn they have to get some stability in goal. Stupid Tallon and that ridiculous Huet contract, ugh. Campbell's isn't a lot better, IMO.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Regular Season Thread

The whole Phoenix saga was a call to the people of Phoenix to support the team or risk losing them. The team is playing well right now.

So the people of Phoenix have spoken...and they don't give a shit.

Last night's announced attendance was 6,899 (based on tickets distributed) whereas the actual attendance was approx. 5,000.

Move this team... and fast.

Well great news for Sabres/Vanek fans, Vanek woke up Wednesday morning, felt pretty good and even
practiced with the team on Thursday. (He sat out Wednesdays practice) So theres a chance he could
play in one or both of this weekends games - tonight vs New York Islanders and Saturday vs Atlanta
Thrashers - both games are at home. If the Sabres sit him out both games - he will definiately return
to action next week when the Sabres head down to Florida.

Update - According to the Sabres website - Vanek is doubtful for tonights game vs the Islanders. (Adam Mair
will then take his place and be on the first line with Derek Roy and Drew Stafford.) Theres a good chance he
returns on Saturday for the game vs the Thrashers. Vanek wasn't hurt when he crashed into the boards after
scoring his second goal on Tuesday but instead got hurt about thirty seconds earlier when he ran into (former
Sabre) Brad May while coming out of the Sabres end of the ice on a rush.

Update #2: Thomas Vanek will not be playing in tonights game vs New York Islanders. He will be replaced in
the lineup by Daniel Pallie and not Adam Mair. Pallie will be on the first line with Derek Roy and Drew Stafford.
No word yet on Vanek playing Saturday vs Atlanta Thrashers.

In other Sabres-Islanders news - The Sabres knew they would be facing a former teammate in net -
Dwayne Roloson or Marty Biron - they just didn't know who it will be. Well it was announced that Rolo
ate the most chicken wings so he will be in net tonight against his former club. (Wouldn't be surprise
if Biron gets the chance to be in net when the Islanders return to Buffalo on Wednesday, November 4.)

Also its "John Tavares" night in the arena as not only the John Tavares who plays for the Islanders will
be playing but John Tavares - his uncle - the indoor lacrosse star for the NLL's Buffalo Bandits (who play
in the same arena as the Buffalo Sabres) will be in attendence as well. The older John Tavares and some
of his teammates/coaches will be signing autographs in the Labatt Blue Zone - located in the East Wing
of the 100 Level Pavillion - before the game - from 6:00 pm ET to 7:15 pm ET.

Go Sabres!
LB...

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Regular Season Thread

The refs in the Habs vs Avs game were bloody awful...

- Puck hits the mesh above the glass behind the Avs net, Habs score. Refs don't see it.

- Then they decide to make up for it by ignoring a series of muggings/grabbing/hooking, and a hit from behind/elbow to the head on Gomez which leads to the Avs winning goal.

- Then with 2:30 left in the game they decide to take the whistles out again, and call a penalty on Gill for tripping himself and falling down on his arse.

- Finally, Habs pull out their goalie and play the last 15-20 sec of the game with 7 guys on the ice and the refs don't see it.

Well the Habs suck... The only consolation is that the Leafs suck even more. Unfortunately it won't stop some Leafs fans on another forum from trash talking...

Being a Leafs fan should automatically void you right to trash talk about hockey on any level including women's hockey, pond hockey and even table hockey.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Regular Season Thread

Only seven games into the 2009-2010 NHL campaign the Boston Bruins have sent forward Chuck Kobasew to the Minnesota Wild.

In return the Bruins will receive winger Craig Weller, a second round pick in 2011, and the rights to prospect Alexander Fallstrom.

Damn good deal for Boston. I'm not a fan of Kobasew and think that the 2nd round pick would have been fair.

The Wild are in a tough spot, they really need pieces, but losing more picks and prospects makes me scared their going to be bottom dwelling for long time.

I bet Boston will trade players to any team who will even challenge the Leafs for last place just to get that top pick.

Its a great year to be a non Leaf fan.
