Blues with another win today, despite a rocky first few minutes from Conklin. I don't think they could have asked for a better start to the season.

Toskala yanked after the 1st period for the Leafs and the "Monster" is in.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Regular Season Thread

As I said before, just start The Monster and be done with Toskala. Mind you though, even with all of the blueliners that they signed, the Leafs are still very sloppy in their own zone. However Ovechkin first goal was inexcusable and should have been stopped by Toskala.

The Leafs should bring in Toskala for the last 5 minutes of every game.

Habs badly outshot again but Price steals another one. And they lose another D-man...

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Regular Season Thread

Much better game from the Sharks last night. Heatley set up a couple nice goals for his first points of the season. Thornton seems to be shooting a bit more so far; hopefully that continues.

I debated him in fantasy leagues as he was great last year for the Panthers in his backup role. (And filling in for the injured Vokoun.)

But, I went with "He's on the Avs; his GAA will skyrocket and he won't be in for too many wins."

Great thinking, no?

(Although, let's see how the rest of the season goes. Heckuvan impressive start, though!)

It was fun to see that in person, the place just erupted when he scored. The Coliseum would have probably fell apart if he put that breakaway in. Great save by Fleury. The kid played a pretty good game overall. The Isles are really starting to put together a good core with Okposo, Tavares, Bailey, Bergenheim, and Nielsen.

Indeed, loving him and just what we needed, a solid positional goalie that is big and in the right place at the right time, no flash needed. May be tough to see if his GAA goes up, but I think we look strong this year and will finish much higher than most people are thinking. Good mix of speed and grit, also, I think there being minimal/no expectations this year, will help them.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Regular Season Thread

You know what's amazing? The TB Lightning only have 34 of their games are on TV locally. Just about none of their road games are on TV, but almost all of their home games are on TV. I would think if you were going to do something as stupid as not televising their games, you would at least show the road games, so people would have to go to the home games. And management will wonder why less people are showing up to the home games. The team is never on TV and when they are, you can sit on your couch at home and not go out to see them. Pathetic.

*EDIT - Looks like I was looking in the wrong place. ESPN only shows 34 of their games on TV. The local paper is showing most of their games on the local sports cable channel. Tonight's game isn't on (probably because I wanted to watch it tonight).

You should watch Caps/Flyers on VS.

Richards just got the hat trick. Looks like Ovechkin probably will as well before the night is over.

Can't watch VS. I have DirectTV. It's blacked out on DirectTV.

Yeah, this VS BS is really annoying me already. Wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't a VS exclusive so we could get the local feeds via CI.

Not to rub it in, but this is a pretty entertaining game. I'm sure DirecTV is not happy that the VS matchups so far this year have been great.

I think the NHL Comish office is the most upset.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Regular Season Thread

Well DirecTV tried to spin VS as the infomercial network. VS has been pulling in record ratings to start the season, even without DirecTV, so I think they are strengthening their position that people tune in to the network and that DirecTV needs to get on board and sign an agreement.

Agreed.

4 St Louis (2-0-0)
4 Columbus (2-0-0)
3 Chicago (1-0-1)
2 Nashville (1-0-0)
0 Detroit (0-2-0)

Like Johnny Bench once said, "You can't win 'em all if you don't win the first two."

Jesus, the Kings might want to learn how to kill a penalty. Sharks have four power play goals so far tonight.
