If not, are they moving?
I think if the Islanders do move, I'll become a full time Lightning fan since I live down here. I don't pay much attention to the Isles anymore since they've drifted into obscurity, but if they're no longer on Long Island there's really no reason to root for them for me.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Regular Season Thread

The stars aligned and I got to go to Sakic's ceremony and the game. Absolutely incredible, even with many standing ovations, you could see he was very humble, just acknowledging the cheers and then sitting down as quickly as he could. When they raised the banner, it was so loud in the rink, that you could literally feel the vibration. Totally incredible night, I have no voice this morning from yelling, but it was worth it. After the ceremony, I was like, ok I'm completely satisfied, almost forgetting there was also a game to watch. Thanks for the memories Joe, you will be missed.

I'll try to get some pictures up later.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Regular Season Thread

I don't like how the Avs ignore that the franchise moved from Quebec and retains that history. Sakic's banner has 1995-2008 on it. It's kind of silly to cut out a big part of his career because the team was in another city then. Carolina is the only other relocated franchise to unretire numbers and ignore history, and that sucks. Add in that they retired Ray Bourque's number after only having played just over one year as pretty much a rental player and the way they handle their history is a bit of a joke.

I can't wait for the Maple Leafs to have-Vesa Toskala Night. Instead of giving him gifts, etc. ,they should give him a pink slip. Johnny Bower could stop more shots than the man who had a .861 save pct. in preseason

I don't think your average Avs fan has any clue about where they played before they came to Denver.

Lousy game for the Sharks last night. The Avs seem to have a lot of good young up and coming players

Two good games this afternoon. Was so glad to see Kariya look good and St. Louis to get the win.

I agree.

That's total bush-league, especially since Colorado was gift-wrapped a Stanley Cup winning team the first year they moved there. I don't think that's ever happened to a franchise, since a franchise moving usually has something to do with the team playing poorly.

Definitely. I wasn't able to watch because of Comcast and DirecTV's little pissing match but it's good to see them open with a win over Detroit. Hopefully they can do it again tomorrow.

I found that odd myself. That would be like the Wings retiring Luc Robitaille's jersey.

Anyway, after two people I know got Center Ice for free by calling up and bitching about no Versus, I tried my luck today. I tried calling while missing the Red Wings game. No dice. I have the worst luck, considering how much I spend on DTV per year. I responded by cancelling the NBA League Pass for this year (which I admittedly was gonna do anyway).

Try again. From what I have read, you might get a completely different response with another rep.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Regular Season Thread

There is a rumor going around on some of the hockey boards, that if you have Dtv, call and complain that you miss hockey because you are not getting VS. People are reporting that they are getting FREE center ice package. Some people say it may take a few calls, but its worth a shot.

My friend has DTV, and he said that everyone in our area has gotten the Center Ice Package for the next 3 weeks, or around something like that. My take on that is Comcast & DTV are in negotiations, and DTV figures a deal should get done by the end of the month.

I have Comcast and I went through this same crap last spring with the NFL Channel, as they threatened to pull the channel, and then they settled within a few weeks after the deadline.

All in all, I hate this crap, because I hate to see that fans who have one cable/dish service may not be able to watch games because they can't get the channel. It is very frustrating that some can't watch a nationally televised sporting event anymore.

Everyone (I think) has a free "preview" of center ice. I am with Time Warrner, and Ive got it.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Regular Season Thread

I have Center Ice for the first time in years, and it's already severely pissing me off...I get Blackhawks games on Comcast-Chicago anyways, and the team I most want to watch other than them is San Jose. So Thursday night's game was a VS exclusive so I couldn't get it, fine, but tonight's game isn't on CI either - why?

I've heard the same thing about DirecTV giving everyone free Center Ice for the next month. I'm still going to call in the next couple days and complain about the lack of Versus and see if I can't get it free all year.

Thanks, figured out what was wrong - I added all the CI channels to my Favorites list the other day, but apparently they weren't all showing up yet, so when I went and looked at all channels, it was showing there.

Re: 2009-2010 NHL Regular Season Thread

Today all 30 teams are playing, so they may have had to add an extra channel or two to be able to show them all.
