I thought Kimbo held his own until Roy layed and prayed at the end. Also pretty glad that Dana called Roy out on his douchbaggery.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part V

I personally thought Nelson did what he had to do to win the fight. It was boring, but if he would have been laid out by Kimbo while standing, everyone would have wondered why Roy didn't use his weight advantage.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part V

A decent wrestler is going to avoid being taken down by him. There's not many small heavyweights left in the UFC. Couture and Vera dropped down to 205 and Cro Cop is done. The smallest heavyweights now are guys like Nog and dos Santos who are around 240ish.

IIRC he had Arlovski on the ground for a good part of their fight and could never put him away and he's about 245

A friend of mine just summed it up best:

"He was hitting him WWE blows and asking for a stoppage."

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part V

The edits around Rampage talking about Nelson's belly was hilarious.

"How long does it take for the water to hit his feet in the shower?"

"How does he aim when he goes to take a piss?"

"That's just the biggest belly I've ever seen"

Pretty cool moment having Jardine come in and hang out and Rashad and Rampage almost go at it, again. I wish Rashad didn't get in between McSweeny and Rampage, I would have loved to see Rampage throw him through a wall.

With all the trash talk and with all the Rashad getting in Rampages face about his fights, I'm just shocked that Rampage would decide to go act than fight this guy.

I like Kimbo. I admit that I was the first to rip on him when he "made it big" with EliteXC. I take that back, he seems like a great dude who really wants to learn how to fight. He had an opporitunity to become huge and he went with it, I can't blame him for that. He really needs to learn how to wrestle and get his ground game going. If he could learn good takedown defense he'll be pretty successful.

And boy was that fight embarassing for both fighters. Kimbo literally couldn't do anything once he got on the ground. Nothing. he couldn't even move. Then Nelson hits him with these retarded shots and good for Herb Dean for not stopping the fight the first time. The second time it made sense. Nelson was barely touching him but that would have gone on for the rest of the round and Dean knew it. Best for him to just end it there.

Kimbo is like a hooker in bed. Will not move once someone is on top.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part V

Roy Nelson:

Quote:
“I could have stayed in mount and finished him there with elbows and punches, but my game plan was to get to the crucifix, and once I got to the crucifix, finish the fight there. First round was 44 punches to the face, and then (referee) Herb Dean doesn’t know how to ref, but we’ve seen that before. And then the next round was 22 punches. You could even see me yelling at Herb Dean, ‘Come on, ref.’ But the thing is, there’s a lot of people; there’s a lot of money. Kimbo’s the only one that I know that had an entourage there; he actually had his family there, his management, while the rest of us kind of had to suffer. The UFC made, we’ll say, different concessions for Kimbo. I think he had a media room. Kimbo’s definitely, I guess we’ll say, special. I don’t see the specialness fighting-wise, but more for TV-wise. He puts butts in the seats. So I think it was more that Herb Dean was afraid to lose his job, because there’s a lot of people with a lot of money that can have a lot of influence with his career.”

What a douche. I like how he said he could have mounted him but instead decided to throw punches that didn't even hurt Kimbo. I liked how as soon as the fight ended Kimbo got up as if he was barely touched.

Sweet lord, from F4W:

Quote:
Actual rating is not available but will be updated very shortly. It will most likely be the highest rated MMA show in history.

5.3 million viewers for the show and 6.1 million for the fight. Highest rated fight in the history of UFC programming and most watched MMA television show from start-to-finish in history.

The show did a 6.8 rating in Males 18-34, highest in the history of the station, beating the Ortiz-Shamrock fight in 2006. Kimbo vs. Roy Nelson did a 7.86 rating in the Male 18-34 demo.

and that is why they gave Kimbo a shot...Dana may have called Kimbo a joke, but he knows promotion and knows having him on there will generate ratings.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part V

Prob was mentioned earlier in this thread but I didn't see where Rampage named the movie he was going to be in.. Guess it's the A-Team.

Saw this pic of him in filming for it... I'm glad he's working on the movie, seems like a good personality and one that could do more then just fighting.

I think Kimbo probably gained more fans with his attitude, even though his fighting skills are sub-par.

Nelson is a douche. I really don't want to see his fat ass in the Octagon.

I watched some of the fight with the mute on, but did anyone point out that between Nelson and Kimbo, you have a 100% complete head of hair?

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part V

Pretty good interview with Roy Nelson by Ariel Helwani..

Nelson says Kimbo got lots of special treatment.. Was able to have his "entourage" come to the fights, said he *thinks* he got an iPhone, and the fact that it's leaked he already has a contracted fight for after TUF..

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part V

Coleman tears MCL and drops out of Nov 21st UFC 106 fight with Ortiz. No replacement named yet..

Also in the works is a matchup between Alistair Overeem vs Sam Hoger (yes, you read that right, Sam Hoger) on Oct. 17.. And yes, it will be outside the US..

He was supposed to fight at Dream 12 which is a week later. It's pretty clear he doesn't want to fight for Strikeforce.

I watched part of Dream 11 this morning. Only saw the Superhulk fights and Kawajiri's fight and was underwhelmed.

Dream 12 in the "white cage" should be interesting

Those are obviously the crap matchups on the card, so of course they are going to suck. The rest of the card had some very decent fights, check 'em out.

Yeah I watched the rest of it last night.

Fernandes/Takaya was a good fight. Though my ears started bleeding from having to listen to Mike Schiavello for that long a time.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part V

Spike TV officially announces UFC 105, Swick vs. Hardy co-headliner
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Oct 06, 2009 at 5:00 pm ET

Spike TV today officially announced it'll carry next month's "UFC 105: Couture vs. Vera" event, which takes place Nov. 14 at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England.

Spike TV will air the event on a same-day delay at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

A bout between Dan Hardy and Mike Swick (a late replacement for injured Dong Hyun Kim) has officially taken the night's co-main-event slot behind the headliner of Randy Couture vs. Brandon Vera.

Although once the country's biggest stars and a frequent U.K. headliner, Michael Bisping takes the third spot on the night's broadcast when he meets Dennis Kang. Bisping looks to rebound from his devastating UFC 100 knockout loss to Dan Henderson. The defeat cost Bisping a title shot with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

Also slated for the televised main card are the two champions from the ninth season of "The Ultimate Fighter," which featured a U.K. vs. U.S. theme. Welterweight winner James Wilks and lightweight winner Ross Pearson, who both were part of Team U.K., take on Matt Brown and Aaron Riley, respectively.

The night's full card, including the un-aired preliminary card, can be found below. As MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) reported last week, a planned preliminary-card bout between DeMarques Johnson and Peter Sobotta has been scratched from the card because of Sobotta's military obligations. (Johnson will instead take on Edgar Garcia at UFC 107 in December.)

The full UFC 105 card includes:

MAIN CARD

* Randy Couture vs. Brandon Vera
* Dan Hardy vs. Mike Swick
* Michael Bisping vs. Denis Kang
* Matt Brown vs. James Wilks
* Ross Pearson vs. Aaron Riley

PRELIMINARY CARD

* Terry Etim vs. Shannon Gugerty
* John Hathaway vs. Paul Taylor
* Nick Osipczak vs. Matthew Riddle
* Alexander Gustafsson vs. Jared Hamman
* Roli Delgado vs. Andre Winner
