Interesting article with the Brewers GM talking about a modification in the rules concerning expanded rosters in September. Guess I've never really thought about it but it makes a good deal of sense. If you don't want to read the article, his point is that in any sport you have two teams facing off with equal size resources (in terms of number of bench players)....except in baseball where in September one team might have a bunch more players than the other team.

At this point Yanks should consider Gaudin as their #4 starter. I can't see Joba picking things.

Now that the lead is down to an uncomfortable 5 games I agree with this. Let Gaudin and Mitre be #4 and #5 the rest of the way and put Joba in the bullpen. Get him ready for postseason pitching out of the pen and let's worry about his future in spring.

Have Gaudin and Mitre battling for a postseason roster spot and have them be the #4 playoff starter. He'll likely only be used if the Yankees make it to the ALCS and World Series and he may even be able to pick up a win if the Yankee bats can help him out.

Re: MLB Monday September 21, 2009

I'm not comfortable at all the way the Yankees have played the last month, I'm not really anxious to see how they play in the playoffs, they might not even still win the division! The Sox has the Royals for 3 while they have the Angels for 3 and then host a series with Boston....I'm just not trying to get my hopes up again....

Re: MLB Monday September 21, 2009

Well KC has decided to start playing some baseball recently and the Red Sox still aren't a very good road team.

Getting into a little bit of a race down the stretch might be a good thing. Get the crowd involved during the 3 games at the Stadium vs the Sox and give the Yankees some incentive to win. They've been on cruise control for awhile and now that Red Sox are creeping back into it they need to turn it on again. Hopefully after losing 2 of 3 to Seattle and Baltimore last week they'll kick it into high gear for a big series against the Angels. All things considered, the Yankees have been able to show up for big series this year and they're bad stretchs don't last very long.

I'm not comfortable either right now. The Sox are still in it for the division but if all goes to plan I still feel comfortable against Detroit or Minny in the ALDS.

Why in the world would you feel comfortable against the Twins?

Spoiler:
Oh yeah, they are like 1-75 against the Yankees this decade.

What I don't like about the expanded rosters is it makes just about every game into a 4 hour snoozefest. When they start making 3 pitching changes in the sixth inning its time to turn the channel to an NFL game or preseason NHL game.

There's been a rumor that this might happen for a while now. A current 7 game losing streak didn't help Cecil Cooper's cause.

Cards managed to keep the Astros in their tailspin tonight while managing to stay close to Philly/LA for the NL's best record.
