Thanks for the Keller picks, I think I am going to go that way.

Re: Fantasy Football Talk 2009

speaking of TE's, what the hell has happened with Vernon Davis. I remember when he got drafted a lot of people were saying that he had the potential to become one of the best ever but now I havn't heard a word from him yet. Granted he's never had a competant QB but still. Is he a blocking TE? Is that why he doesn't get receptions or are his hands made of butterfingers?

Re: Fantasy Football Talk 2009

Quick question-

For my flex position should I start Santonio Holmes (WR) or Derrick Ward (RB)? I read that Ward will be sharing touches with Cadillac and Earnest Graham which kind of makes me think that Holmes would be a better start. Any thoughts?

I personally am waiting on Ward to see what they do.

Vernon Davis is notorious for alligator arms and not being able to hold onto passes. Since he came into the league he's been an athletic freak, but he wasn't the best route runner. He has now turned himself into an elite blocking tight end, and it was recognized last year as a pro bowl alternate.

Now, with Jimmy Raye as an offensive coordinator in SF, they expect Davis to be used more in passing situations. He is doing shorter routes instead of just trying to blow by the linebackers and safeties, since he doesn't seem to be able to catch them anyways. I expect to see Vernon Davis catch more balls when the 9ers use screens and this should be his most productive season yet, but that's been said every season since he's come into the league.

It also doesn't help that there has been a new offensive coordinator every year he's been in the league.

Wouldn't even think about this decision and would put Holmes in at flex.

Graham should be getting the short yardage and goal line carries for the bucs. If it's a PPR league, I might roll with Ward, hoping he gets afew passes thrown his way, but Holmes has a higher ceiling this week even though he's playing the Titans.

I have stayed far away from the bucs RB situation this year, but I do have Cadillac stashed on my bench in one league.

Re: Fantasy Football Talk 2009

Ok, need to start 1 RB and 1 Flex out of these guys (not a PPR league).

Derrick Ward vs. DAL
Leon Washington @ HOU
Santonio Holmes vs. TEN
Brandon Marshall @ CIN
Donald Brown vs. JAC
Ricky Williams @ ATL

Leaning towards Washington at the RB spot and Marshall or Holmes at the flex spot, but they're both questionable options (Holmes has a tough matchup, and who the hell knows with Marshall right now).

Re: Fantasy Football Talk 2009

I've basically got one tough decision this week and it's between starting Willie Parker vs. Ten or Terrell Owens vs. NE as my flex option. Identical scoring with .25 ppr.

Re: Fantasy Football Talk 2009

I took Vernon Davis as my second TE for one of my teams. They've been talking him up in the preseason I guess but I'll believe it when I see it.

Thinking along these very same lines, just wanted someone else to vocalize it as well

Re: Fantasy Football Talk 2009

Need advice for my flex spots in both of my leagues...

I need one of the following for a flex spot in one league:
Chris Henry (Cin)
Michael Jenkins (ATL)
Jonnie Lee Higgins (OAK)

I'm leaning towards Henry.

I need one of the following for the flex spot in my other league:
Davone Bess (MIA)
Sydney Rice (MIN)
Darrius Heyward-Bey (OAK)
Antwaan Randle-El (WAS)

The reason I chose those 2 is that Leon Washington will get more touches than either Holmes or Marshall. Washington can break it for a touchdown anytime he touches the ball, so it's worth a shot. I also think that Mark Sanchez will struggle a bit and will need to check the ball down to Washington more often than not.

The reason I chose Marshall over Holmes is that even though Marshall is a nutjob, I think Marshall has a much better matchup. If he wasn't so crazy in the offseason, he'd have been a 2nd-3rd round pick.

This is a tough one. I love that Parker is the undisputed back in Pit, but he's up against the Titans. Owens hates the no huddle offense and has been injured the past few weeks. The reason I roll with Owens is that the Bills will be playing from behind and will need to throw to catch up. Granted, if someone asked me this 5 minutes later, I might change my mind since I have flashes of Willie Parkers week 1 in 2008.

Not great options in either league. I like Jenkins, but he has to contend with Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez. Not to mention he has Norwood and Turner who will get the ball as well.

Higgins isn't even worth mentioning unless return yards count.

Henry has the highest ceiling of the 3, plus they play a poor Broncos defense. Sure they have Champ Bailey, but that's Ochocinco's problem.

In the second league, I don't really like any of the options, but I'll roll with Bess in the rotating WR2 slot for Miami. He will get his touches while the other 3 are more of a crapshoot.

Didn't Champ Bailey routinely get torched last year? Offenses had no trouble passing on that defense. He was a shut down corner before but now he's up there in age and I think Bailey's reputation now exceeds what he is actually able to do.

Re: Fantasy Football Talk 2009

All my fantasy football teams suck this year except for one. I'm looking at it right now and I'm shocked at the quality of players I got...

this is a standard yahoo football league with 12 teams (1QB, 3WR, 2RB, etc...)
QB - Jay Cutler
WR1 - Greg Jennings
WR2 - Vincent Jackson
WR3 - DeSean Jackson
RB1 - DeAngelo Williams
RB2 - Steve Slaton
TE - Chris Cooley
K - Jason Elam
DEF - NY Jets

Bench
Marion Barber
Lance Moore
Steve Breaston
Eli Manning
Donald Brown
Rashard Mendenhall

Mendenhall would be the first person to be cut when I need to find a spot starter

Re: Fantasy Football Talk 2009

I'm benching LJ this week vs a tough Raven defense.

Who should I start in his place:

Hightower vs 49ers or Julius Jones vs Rams?

I'd probably go with Julius Jones although it's tough since Hightower may get GL carries even though they have Wells.

I'd go Washington at RB for sure. I just don't know how hard Marshall's gonna play plus all the problems going on in Denver. I think Holmes will surpass Hines Ward as Pitt's leading WR this season. It's a tossup between the two. Sorry, I just kinda repeated what you were already thinking.

Re: Fantasy Football Talk 2009

For my flex position I'm thinking either Bernard Berrian at Cleveland or Portis at the Giants. Portis has the much tougher matchup but I don't know how much Minn will throw it or if they'll even need to. Any opinions? I'm leaning towards Berrian thinking he'll catch something deep off of play action.

Is this PPR or something? I'm guessing you used your first three picks on RBs, but how does Barber fall into the third round? And Jennings to the fourth?

No, go with the sure bet. Thomas *might* play, and if that happens, Mike Bell's value goes down.
