Ahhh the Yankees and Blue Jays are playing an afternoon game. What a great way to spend the afternoon with everyone having the day off on July 3rd!

... wait, I'm stuck at work.... FUCK.

And how beat up is the NL East right now? 8 AL teams would be leading that division.

The Phillies are being renamed, SS Titanic

I am still suprised this team has no sense of urgency, because this losing streak has been for about a month now. They keep saying, "Were still in first, and we are the champions." But there are issues with this team:

1. Hammels has been inconsistent.

2. They HAVE to make a trade for a #2 pitcher at the deadline

3. The bullpen is burned out, Lidge hasn't been right all year, Madson is getting smoked in the past few games.

4. Rollins is hitting around .210, and OBP is worst for any leadoff hitter.

5. Ibanez pretty much carried the team out of the gate and he has been on the DL for the past couple of weeks.

6. They just look lethargic, almost to the point where I want them to fall out of first place in the East, as they play better when they are behind, as they had great Septembers in '07 and '08 to overcome the Mets.

Re: MLB Friday July 3, 2009

If the Reds and Cubs win a couple of games this weekend, it would make for a real logjam at the top of the NL Central standings.

Should've walked him! 3 run lead, 1out in the 8th - perfect time for the bases loaded intentional walk. I gladly give up the run or if I'm the pitcher, I "unintentionally" balk or throw a wild pitch which then means you intentional walk him. Even if the next guy up hits a sac fly you still have a 1 run lead and you won't see Pujols again.

EDIT - with 2 out bases loaded, the intentional walk is a no-brainer. With no out it's difficult (3 chances for a single to tie the game or on 2 sac flies). One out is a bit risky, but is it as risky as pitching to Pujols?

Re: MLB Friday July 3, 2009

And more questionable pitching to Pujols in the 9th. 1st and 2nd 2 out.... and you pitch to him? (he doubled) If it's 2nd and 3rd, you walk him instantly, yet first and 2nd, 2 out you pitch to him?

I think folks need to re-think the baseball "book" when facing Albert.

Re: MLB Friday July 3, 2009

Can we just go ahead and give the 2009 NL MVP to Pujols, please? Man, he is incredible. .336, 31 home runs, 82 RBI's before the 4th of July.

Cards in 1st place by themselves again!

God the Dbacks are fucking pathetic. 3 more errors today. I think they've pretty much written off the season. Terrible.

Forgot to put in a plug for Jarrett Hoffpauir of the Cards. 1st major league at bat came in the 9th inning and he hit a tie-breaking 2-run single.

Edit to correct myself: His first "official" at-bat. He came up earlier in the game and drew a walk.

The ump in this Twins/Tigers game has an odd strike zone, it's been consistent I guess, but not very good.

I really don't understand why clubs keep pitching to Pujols. Crazy offensive numbers, and four grand slams. I wish I could catch some Cardinals games here, but at least I can always count on seeing Pujols on the nightly highlight reels.

The Tigers wisely walked both Mauer and Morneau tonight to load the bases, I don't know why anyone would challenge Pujols.
