Oh, I agree about it being sport inside the octagon. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

I think we're seeing the same things, only from two different perspectives.

Look's like GSP wasn't that concerned about his groin after the fight

She was pretty safe walking around with me. She didn't get to go to the PPV though, only to the expo.

I'm assuming if Dan wins he gets next shot at Anderson. Good rematch. I'm one of the ones who thought Ace won the first fight.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IV

I think this fight is retarded.. They haven't mentioned what weight class this will be at yet but I'm guessing 205.. If it were at 185 and Rich won he'd be in the same position he was a while ago.. The top contender at 185 and someone who already got his ass handed to him twice by Silva..

Hendo is getting screwed.. Silva is fighting Forrest at 205 next month but who is he going to defend his title against? Hendo has done the best against him thus far and deserves another crack at him..

I guess they are going to give the next title shot to the winner of Demian Maia vs Nate Marquardt.. I guess they are both deserving as well (Maia for sure).. Just after Dan's last win (and how he won it) I thought for sure they would give the title shot to him..

Just very strange to make Dan go back up to 205 to fight Rich again.. I really don't have much desire to see that fight again (even though it was a close fight that could have gone either way).

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IV

Yeah, dumb fight. The first was close, but it wasn't the barn burning stuff that made one want to see a rematch. Add to that the problem of weight class jumping and how a loss affects their contendership, its a puzzler why it was made... well, not really, the other contenders & champs are tied up and UFC has 50 events a year now

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IV

Overeem is out of the Strikeforce card on Aug 15th with an injury. They are looking for a replacement opponent for Werdum.

Considering that belt has been on the shelf longer than Cung Le's I wouldn't be surprised if they have Werdum vs Rogers for an interim belt.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IV

Just read that as well. I wonder if Rogers would take the fight on such short notice and jeopardize the run he's on.

Between Overeem and Le they should just find a way to create new belts, they're holding both divisions hostage.

Just came here to post this.. What a huge bummer..

Quote:
It appears the main event of Affliction “Trilogy” will not survive its original incarnation.

According to a report on Sherdog.com and multiple sources MMAWeekly.com spoke with Tuesday night, the Aug. 1 card’s headlining bout between Fedor Emelianenko and Josh Barnett will be scrapped just days before it was scheduled to grace the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

The Sherdog.com report cited multiple sources that said the California State Athletic Commission would not license Barnett due to a “positive test result,” presumably on the athlete’s pre-fight medical paperwork.

Barnett initially said he was unaware of the denial, but later added, “no matter what happens with this, I can assure you I will clear my name. This will not be something that I am defined by.”

Barnett’s manager, Shannon Hooper, did not respond to messages requesting comment on the situation.

Bill Douglas, Assistant Executive Officer of CSAC, wrote in an email to MMAWeekly.com that a “comprehensive statement” regarding the matter would be released on Wednesday.

Affliction representatives are currently working on a replacement opponent for Emelianenko, and sources have named Vitor Belfort and Bobby Lashley as potential replacements. However, Lashley told Sherdog that he was unprepared to step up on such short notice.

“I don't know if I would want it right now,” said Lashley, who recently signed a deal with pro wrestling promotion Total Nonstop Action, which still allows him to compete in MMA. “Since the last fight, I haven't really been into training again. That fight is next week. That would be something I would really have to take a look at. To just jump in there probably wouldn't be the smartest thing for me right now.”

Additional sources told MMAWeekly.com that while middleweight Belfort had agreed in principle to step up two weight classes to face Emelianenko, he had not yet fully committed to the fight and was weighing his options Tuesday evening. However, the search for a potential replacement for Belfort is also underway.

Representatives for Emelianenko and Affliction did not respond to messages requesting comment.

Stay tuned to MMAWeekly.com for further developments.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IV

Geez, what a bummer. I was looking forward to that fight for awhile now. I wonder what this means for Affliction. The biggest heavyweight fight in a long time gets scrapped and now they're scrambling to find a replacement. This isn't looking good for a promotion that was on the brink of extincation anyway.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IV

Wow. Absolutely terrible for Affliction. Their last ppv did bad numbers when you consider the fighter payouts and pretty much signaled that they were working on fans only and not drawing the casual crowd that boosts UFC's profits. Now they lose the only headline HW matchup they have to draw that small, die hard audience.

Guess thats what happens when you put all your eggs in one (Russian) basket.

Funny how the MMA landscape is- here I am within one thread complaining about Affliction banking on one road survive and UFC branching out too much. Org's just cant win *sigh*

Both of those replacement fights are laughable.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part IV

I hope it's not Vitor because I really want to see him fight Santiago...

And Lashley?? :: That's embarrassing if Affliction actually even OFFERS him that fight... Could you imagine if he took it and landed a lucky shot to put Fedor out?? You would have Lesnar the HW champ of the UFC and then Lashley the Wamma HW champ.. WWE 4 LIFE!!
