A little bit harder with all the contracts they have tied up.

If Amare is coming back next season, I'll give the Suns one more chance with more or less the same group of guys. Still, the Suns will need to sign someone like Ron Artest or a small forward that can defend and get rid of Barbosa, re-sign Gran Hill and Matt Barnes and get a true PG that can be a backup to Nash. Someone like Anthony Johnson. The Suns should also try to get Walter Hermann, a big guy that can shoot and another big man that can run.

They also have to be clear as to what type of a team they are going to be for the season. To me the problem with that team has been that they never got 12 guys that fit the running system at the same time and the fact that D'Antoni didn't use his bench and Gentry used the bench too much. They need to use 8-10 guys during the season and defend a little.

Re: 2009 NBA offseason thread

This is sad. Jayson Williams was one of my favorite players back in the 90's.

Quote:
Reports: Jayson Williams in hospital

Former NBA player Jayson Williams has been hospitalized in New York for evaluation after authorities responded to a report of a violent, suicidal man refusing to leave his hotel room, the New York Post and WABC-TV are reporting.

Williams, 41, was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center for a psychological evaluation early Monday after barricading himself inside his room at the Embassy Suites on North End Avenue, the Post reported.

According to the newspaper, police used an "an electrical device" to subdue Williams, who had trashed his room.

The nine-year NBA player for the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Nets is awaiting retrial on reckless manslaughter charges stemming from the 2002 shooting death of a hired limo driver. In his 2004 trial, Williams was acquitted of aggravated manslaughter in the death of Costas "Gus" Christofi but was convicted of trying to cover up the crime.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

I think it's more sad that he is responsible for another person's death, but that's just me.

Unless you meant it is sad that he wasn't able to kill himself.

I think it's pretty funny that he won because of one good trade. He surely didn't win because of his brilliance in giving Camby away.

And he was the one that acquired Iverson a few years back.

I don't look at it as a "fleecing" - Dumars knew what he had in Billups. Had the Pistons hung on to him, they would have won 50 games but been knocked out in the playoffs by the Cavs/Celtics or another team. He attempted to shake things up, knowing at worse the team would then have all kinds of cap room after the season. Needless to say, the worse case scenario came about.

Re: 2009 NBA offseason thread

I'm back!

And I still stand by my contention that atari2600 would make a terrible general manager.

Oden's rough as hell but he's also 21. If you want to give him 3 years and then call him a bust okay -- but any general manager considering Oden a bust already is one that will likely be fired for terrible performance soon.

That's exactly what I'm sure Wizards fans said about Kwame back in 2001... Still, at this point I think even the optimists aren't seeing a perennial all-star like he was originally projected to be (though he does play center, which is probably the easiest position to get an all-star spot in these days). Anyway, welcome back.

Re: 2009 NBA offseason thread

I'm interested in seeing how the MVP vote break down is, so I can get ready to argue about how Wade got more votes then he deserved and that Kobe got the shaft

But really, no surprise for Lebron. Hopefully the trend of MVP's not winning the title continue.
