What kind of back-up 4 can you get for Farmar and Morrison? I guess the Grizzlies have a ton of PFs/Centers now, maybe they want to deal?

Sorry...scratch that...the Lakers already used their MLE on Artest.

To answer your question...there are a couple out there, I guess...Drew Gooden, Joe Smith, Ben Wallace, Antoine Walker (heh)

I think the Lakers should go after Darko and see if they can turn him into the next Luc Longley

I believe his contract is expiring, so he has some value.

Honestly, it seems like he sucks but he really only had his rookie year in the NBA. Injuries took him out for pretty much the next year and a half, and he hasn't really had a chance to get back into playing. If he can hit shots again, he's got to be better then Sasha, right?

Re: 2009 NBA offseason thread

Yahoo is reporting that Miami is offering Odom a 5 year contract at the mid-level salary. Also they are trying to make a 3 team trade to bring Boozer from Utah and send Haslem to the Jazz and Dontell Wright to the Griz.

Re: 2009 NBA offseason thread

So let's see who the dumbass chooses.

The Heat are trying to sell Odom on a five-year, $34 million contract at the mid-level exception.

Odom’s agent is trying to get a five-year, $45 million deal out of the Lakers, who have offered four years and $36 million.

I've never seen a situation where free agents abandon a championship team for the same or less money elsewhere. What the heck is going on?

I'm wondering if it is the starting situation? I believe he would be a starter on Miami, but still be coming off the bench in LA?

It wouldn't surprise if that plays a small role, as when his contract is up in 3 or 4 years, his numbers would probably be higher in Miami then it would be off the bench in LA, and if he's trying to get one last contract before retiring he would probably be worth less. That's probably why length is also a big deal, as a 3 year deal from LA and being a free agent again at what, age 32 or 33 which is when NBA players start to decline is more difficult, whereas it makes sense to try and get 5 years now at steady money.

Man I hope this goes down. The problem I see with Odom is that with the Lakers signing Artest minutes could be a problem. I know that Odom will play the 3 position but still. The Heat will look real nice with Chalmers, Wade, Odom, Boozer and O'neil with Beasley off the bench.

Re: 2009 NBA offseason thread

According to people over at The Lakers Nation forums the Laker/ Odom deal is now 4 years 36 million. Signing is supposedly imminent. Not sure how reliable this "source" is.

I thought the offer that was pulled off the table was 3 years, 30 million or 4 years, 36 million...

Utah is matching Portland's offer for Milsap. That puts the Blazers back in the running for Lamar if they're interested. No sales tax on candy in Oregon has to be worth 3/4 million right there.

Re: 2009 NBA offseason thread

Take that SEC.

DALLAS -- A federal judge on Friday dismissed a civil insider trading lawsuit against Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

While granting Cuban's motion, U.S. District Judge Sidney A. Fitzwater gave the Securities and Exchange Commission 30 days to file an amended complaint.

Cuban

The SEC alleged Cuban was involved in insider trading when he sold shares in an Internet search engine company, Mamma.com Inc., after receiving confidential information about a private offering in 2004.

The SEC said the billionaire NBA owner avoided a loss of $750,000 by selling his 600,000 shares, which represented a 6.3 percent stake in the company.

In his 35-page ruling, Fitzwater wrote that the SEC didn't accuse Cuban of promising not to trade based on the confidential information he received. Thus, the commission could not hold him liable for illegal insider trading, the judge wrote.

Fitzwater said the SEC could file a new complaint if it can allege that Cuban promised not to trade on the information.

The judge rejected some of Cuban's claims about his fiduciary relationship with the company, however.

An SEC spokesman didn't immediately return e-mail and phone messages seeking comment.

Ralph Ferrara, one of Cuban's attorneys, said he needed time to digest the ruling but was initially impressed with what he called Fitzwater's "appellate court level" analysis.

"It sounds like unlike many trial courts on motions to dismiss, he really tried to come to grips with the fundamental legal policy questions that we raised," Ferrara said.

Cuban didn't immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment.

Did Lamar Odom do anything to Kevin Pritchard? I still don't get why hasn't Portland offered the money they have to Odom, who is a combo forward and exactly the position that the team needs.

He takes too many plays off
Aldridge doesn't like him, so he'd be hurting chemistry
He'd fit better on the Jail Blazers than the current Blazers
He wants too much money and too long of a contract

There would be basically no upside to the Blazers signing him.

Re: 2009 NBA offseason thread

According to Yahoo, Yao has opted for surgery and will most likely miss the entire 2009-10 season. Hopefully Houston can pull off a San Antonio. Stink for one season due to a star's injury and then land a blue chipper in next years draft and then be considered strong again the season after next.

San Antonio didn't just land a blue chipper though, they landed one of the best Centers of all-time and then the best power forward of all-time.

Yeah but who you would want for the 2010 draft that would be able to help them? John Wall? Willie Warren? I don't think that they'd be that quick back into the playoffs.

ESPN is reporting that the Celtics signed Marquis Daniels. That's a great pickup since he can backup both Allen and Pierce.
