Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part III

Martin Kampmann vs Mike Swick at UFC 103. The winner is next in line for a title shot per mmajunkie.

I think this could be a great fight.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part III

Yep, I'll pay for Swick/Kampmann regardless of the rest of the card. Awesome matchmaking right there, hopefully the rest of the card shapes up just as nicely.

Nick Diaz vs. Joe Riggs II set for “Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg”

June 29, 2009 by Cory Brady

Nick Diaz is expected to face off with an old rival in Joe Riggs on August 15 on the main card of Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg.

The event is scheduled to take place at the HP Pavillion in San Jose, California.

Sources within Strikeforce recently confirmed the bout according to a recent report on Carson’s Corner.

This bout between the two will be the second professional mixed martial arts match-up but their third fight as the two traded blows in the hospital following their first encounter.

Riggs won the previous match-up between the two at UFC 57 as he edged out Diaz in a hard fought unanimous decision victory.

Diaz last saw action on May 6 where he submitted Scott Smith with a rear naked choke in the third round of “Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields”,the same card where Riggs bested Phil Baroni by unanimous decision in his last outing.
Should be an entertaining fight! Sad thing is it may not even make the broadcast. That would be robbery.. Have the cops at the hospital ready after this one!

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part III

I wonder if this one will pick up where the last one left with the two attacking each other in the hospital.

I don't see any way it doesn't make the broadcast with how heavily they have been pimping Diaz.

Diaz should be fighting Lawler, not move way down and fighting Riggs.

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part III

Diaz vs. Lawler doesn't make sense. Diaz already Ko'd Lawler. He has to avenge a loss to Riggs and is being built as a star. This is a good match-up for Strikeforce to make.

Diaz should be fighting Cung Le. Or someone should be fighting Cung Le. Or he should be stripped of his title!

Re: The Official MMA Thread - Part III

Actually for some reason I was still thinking EliteXC and Lawler with the belt. I agree Diaz should fight for the title which Le should be stripped of for inactivity. I'm thinking it should be vs Lawler as he was the reigning belt holder for EliteXC. I can't think of anybody else right now, and Diaz will never go for the welterweight title vs Shields.

I don't think Riggs is very good at all and if for some reason Diaz loses to Riggs, what happens to his star status?

Agreed completely. Same thing with Alistair and the heavyweight belt.
