Tampa Bay Devil Rays: 2008 March Towards A Championship

Martinez, who played for the Devil Rays from 1998-2000, replaced Bill Evers. He served as a spring training instructor for the past two seasons and also filled in as first base coach for three weeks while George Hendrick recovered from knee surgery this year.

The Devil Rays announced last week that Hendrick, Tom Foley (third base), Steve Henderson (hitting) and Bobby Ramos (bullpen) will be retained as part of manager Joe Maddon's staff in 2008. They all agreed to two-year contracts.

Zimmer, 76, has been with the Devil Rays for four years.

The sports radio hacks down here really think the Rays will be able to leap frog the Yankees AND Blue Jays and win the wild card this year. It's comical.

Do I need to buy now online, or will walk-up the day before be OK (I was hoping for a better selection in person)?

Upper deck almost directly backa the plate for $14, or outfield for $21? Left outfield, or right outfield (for a while there, it almost looked like there was a premium on stubhub for left outfield)?

Are we seeing the start of an eventual slide? I'm thinking the Rays will end up like the Rockies last season. Except, they'll crash & burn before reaching the playoffs..

I'd like to see if they have the stones to actually be a buyer when the standings demand it. They need a RH bat in the worst way. They could probably use another arm in the pen as well.
