Your fantasy sleepers and busts

My sleeper is the closer for COL; my bust is Miguel Tejada.

you really can't have a sleeper by just position and not name...especially if that position is the closer for Colorado. None of the candidates would even make decent closers for 3/4 of major league teams, let alone be a good closer in the thin air of Colorado

I think Angel Berroa, the SS for the Royals will have a great year. He was subpar last year and even sent back down to the minors at the end of the season. That was his wakeup call because he's tearing the shit out of the ball this year in Spring Training.

Relax dude - I just can't remember his name. It's like Tsao or Tsung or something like that. Look at his numbers for last year; while brief, he has a IP/K ratio of about 1/1.25, which, if he continued that for an entire season, he'd have more K's than virtually every other RP. Even "in the thin air of Colorado".

Thanks for imposing your rules on sleepers though.

Except it's folly to judge a pitcher on such a short stint though. And Most fantasy players would never touch colorado pitchers. They're going to kill your WHIP, and since Colorado isn't very good, it won't do anything great for your win/save categories.

If I wasn't so infield heavy with my multi position line up, I would have picked him up. My only concern was, I'd rather see him as their lead off guy. I had him two years ago and rode out a nice little streak.

I have a sleeper and a bust in Griffey.

And if he succeeds, then he will be the definition of "sleeper."

Although I would tend to avoid or at least downgrade any current Colorado closer due to the uncertainty of the situation, I would point out a few things. One, Colorado RPs have been successful as opposed to their starters. Two, saves really have nothing to do with how good a team is. Three, Tsao actually is a pretty good prospect with an excellent K-rate.

So one could do worse then Tsao. Of course the big warning would be Chacon who has a pretty decent starter, but a horrid closer for Colorado.

I don't think Mauer counts as a sleeper anymore. He's been touted since a year and a half ago. Hopefully he knee holds up.

I like Dallas McPherson but again, he's highly touted, so I don't know how much of a "sleeper" he is.

Yeah, I think I should/could have clarified --- to me, a sleeper is someone who would not be taken as one of the top 10 or so players at his position in a regular draft.

In all my drafts, Mauer has been taken pretty high. I think he might be a breakout player, but not necessarily a sleeper.

I agree with Wood/Prior as busts though.

Sleepers:
J.J. Davis - If he wins one of the OF spots in Washington and gets some consistant playing time, he could be very good
Mark Redman - similar to Jeff Supan, awful in the AL - not too bad in the NL. Could hit 15 wins.

Busts:
Carl Pavano - this year's Javier Vazquez
Barry Bonds - age and injuries start to catch up to him this year - I see him missing a lot of games

I think Astros OF Jason Lane is a good sleeper bet. He's virtually assured of a spot in the line-up, has a lot of pop, and is finally going to be able to get substantial playing time if Garner doesn't do anything silly like attempt to platoon him with Orlando Palmeiro.

As for busts, put me down for Carlos Delgado. Production will drop due to the home park, and he's got no DH spot to jump to if he gets banged up. On the plus side, he's in a great line-up, but I just have a feeling that he's going to disappoint.

Busts: Konerko? Lilly? K. Rogers? Sleepers: P. Feliz? Adams? I have a decent offensive team. SP isn't great. Try to pick up Adams for the Mil. closer role.

J. Oneil and Z. Randolph, and Van Exel all busts on my fb team. They all went to the IL within 2 weeks of each other.

If Jayson Werth can stay healthy, I think he will be a great pick.

Can you really have a sleeper that hit .282/26/82 in 120 games last year? That's projected to .282/35/110 in a 162 game season. I think everyone knows about Jason Bay's potential.

I'd agree - hard to be a sleeper with those numbers.

Yeah, but he plays for Pittsburgh. So he'll go much later than guys with similar numbers from higher profile teams.

Inge! damn straight. I picked him up in the 20th round. I will play him at catcher. Should get more games played than anyone else.
