It also makes it a helluva lot harder to see the rim when taking foul shots. I don't know how they do that.

Good game so far, 9-8 ILL five minutes in. Davis with 6 of the points...I don't think they can cover him much at all...he's going to have to come up huge.

Dammit!! State has missed no less than four layups....can't do that against such a great team. Dee Brown is unconscious (But of course just missed a WIDE open three....what is that makes it so hard when no one is within ten feet of you? Hill has done the same thing...)

Illinois seems to be handling MS so far. Looks like their pretty typical game. I thought the 1st half would be a wash, not a good sign for MS.

This is over. Stupid Spartans

Not the least bit unexpected....but I'd like to see them make a better showing one of these days in a game of this magnitude. It's getting old. I really thought they'd play better. Paul Davis is a complete enigma to me.

Jesus Christ...kind of hard to come back when the other team goes ten minutes without missing a shot! Amazing. MSU is actually playing really well on the defensive end, forcing them down to buzzer beaters every other trip down the floor, but they are making everything. Not much else they can do better. I never thought i'd see a team without a center dominate like this....strange. But they are awfully good.

Slow down dude, Illinois is pretty good, and so is the perspective. I know you are a MS fan, but Ill is hittin like 54%, good but not everything. They are killing you with the 3pt'ers, though. Really, it's their typical game.

Edit: Nevermind they even bumped that FGP up. That's why they are #1 I guess.

13-25 three pointers is pretty damned impressive. I wasn't sure if they were really that good or not, but after tonight i'm pretty sure they are.

Looks like BC has started to pull away to keep the 2 undefeated.

Nice win by the Illini.

Horrible loss by the Terps - makes that win at Duke even more embarrassing for the Devils.

Well, you called that one. Terps lost by 15 to Clemson. Pathetic even given 1 day of rest and on the road.

WVU lost tonight as well, by 12 at BC. Crappy b-ball day for me.

Huge win for the Illini. I guess the Izzone's chant of "Shannon's better" to Dee wasn't a very good idea

Barring a total collapse, and that won't happen unless injuries occur, Illinois wrapped up the Big 10 tonight, @Iowa is the only game I can see them possibly losing and if Pierce is out that won't happen, and probably the #1 seed in the Chicago bracket.

Also, on behalf of IlliniNation, allow me to apologize for Dee Brown acting like such a punk. He must've been really geeked up for that game.

Writing was on the wall. 1) Maryland is no model of consistency. They can beat anyone and lose to anyone, particularly on the road. 2) They played 2 very tough games in a row the week before. They were due for a letdown emotionally and physically. 3) They were playing on 1 day rest against a team with more rest (different than a tourney situation - both teams playing from the same deck). 4) Clemson's 1-7 was a bit deceptive: they played 5 road conference games in the first half of the conference season.

Illinois looked very strong last night. I wondered after Illinois got through their tougher OOC games whether they could run the table, given the general suckitude of the Big Ten, or as I like to now call it, Illinois + 10 other schools. Looks like they just might.

Great doubleheader on ESPN tonight: Cincy/Louisville and Duke/Wake. Hmmm - Duke/Wake or the State of the Union Address??? Tough choice.

Remaining Reg Season games:

Home -- Indiana, Wisconsin, Northwestern and Purdue

Road -- Michigan, Penn State, Iowa and Ohio State

I like those odds.

Especially since:

The Associated Press

February 2, 2005, 3:29 PM CST

Iowa basketball player Pierre Pierce, under investigation in an incident last week in West Des Moines, has been permanently dismissed from the team, university athletic officials said Wednesday.

Pierce, from Westmont High School, was under investigation for intent to commit sexual abuse, burglary, criminal mischief and false imprisonment for an incident at the home of a former girlfriend.

"Effective immediately, Pierre Pierce has been dismissed from the University of Iowa men's basketball team," head coach Steve Alford said in a statement.

"I regret this step has become necessary, but Pierre has betrayed the trust we placed in him when he was given a second chance two years ago," Alford said.

Yeah I saw that and included that when I said "I like those odds."

Iowa's got some issues. They have a good record (15-5) and RPI (33), but with a 3-4 conference record, the #84 SOS, and the loss of Pierce, they are squarely on the bubble.

The Illinois + 10 might only get 3 bids if Iowa doesn't play well down the stretch. Minny needs a marquee win to fill out their resume, like beating MSU or Wisconsin.

ESPN's Mike Patrick just said during the Duke-WF game that Reddick is the "best long range shooter that ever lived" and the "best free throw shooter that ever lived." I kid you not. He blathered on about how Reddick should be a lock for 1st team all-american. Reddick then promptly missed the front end of a 1-and-1. Hilarious.

I was upstairs watching the game and was just going to come down and post the same thing
