Now they need about 5 more of these type injuries for the O's to have a chance.

It's not like they won't still have a killer team, though. Now they won't score 20 million runs this season, just 19 million.

He is POSSIBLY out 2-3 months. That is the worst-case scenario.

Sheffield getting injured is the least of the Yankees worries...just wait until Kevin Brown, Jon Lieber, and Giambi go out. And this is not allowing for any historically healthy players to go out!

Baseball Prospectus recently did a "team health report" for the Yankees. Players get rated with a red light (major injury risk), yellow light (minor risk), and green light. It's not a pretty sight if you're a Yankee fan.

CF Kenny Lofton
SS Derek Jeter
3B Alex Rodriguez
1B Jason Giambi
RF Gary Sheffield
DH Bernie Williams
LF Hideki Matsui
C Jorge Posada
2B Enrique Wilson

Rotation

SP Mike Mussina
SP Kevin Brown
SP Javier Vazquez
SP Jose Contreras
SP Jon Lieber

Closer

CL Mariano Rivera

Quote:
If Joe Torre gets to write the above lineup on his card 130 times this season and gets 30 starts from each of his five starters, it will be a long season in Boston, but the odds of this happening look more like Powerball than baseball. I'll be interested to see if any other team has as many red lights this season.

At the price this lineup costs, nothing short of a ring will satisfy George Steinbrenner and Yankees fans. If they can bring another World Series to the Bronx, the MVP may be the Yankee medical staff.

Yep, and for Schilling and Pedro to hurt themselves. And for the O's pitching staff to perform well. And... well you get the picture

I don't have to worry about bad karma. It's too late. Nevin already got hurt yesterday. Still no word on the seriousness, and hopefully it was only scar tissue ripping.

Really? Man, he's like a gingerbread man out there. Too bad, because he's good talent.

He dislocated his shoulder in spring training last year.

Yesterday, one year TO THE DAY, he felt a twinge in that shoulder during a swing, then he dove for a ball at first base and immediately called the trainer over. He's scheduled for an MRI, and the hopeful thinking is he'll be back before the season starts.

Still, there's lots of panicking in San Diego today. Move Klesko to 1B? Nady or Long in the OF? Even a ridiculous rumor of a trade for Soriano.

re: Nevin...

Officially a separated shoulder now, and he's out 3-4 weeks. Could be worse, but goddammit!

Bochy said there is NO WAY Nevin will be playing in a game next March 7th.
