Troy Aikman -- a terrible announcer?

Is it just me or is Aikman absolutely terrible? He says whatever is convenient at the moment and rarely says anything intelligent. He must repeat "There's no question" or some similar variation at least 40x a game. I'm honestly asking here, maybe I'm just judging too hard because of my dislike of him as a player.

He sucks, as do most former atheltes that go into announcing IMO. At least the recent ones anyway, some of the older ones are ok.

Can't stand him. What is sad is that Simms is worse. Frankly, the #1 color guys on the 4 carriers are all lousy IMO.

I wish all the pro analysts could be traded for the college football analysts because there are some excellent ones on ABC and ESPN.

I couldn't stand any of the announcers during the packers game.
aikman actually was the least annoying though, mainly because I don't think he said more than 4 things the whole game

I think Aikman does a really good job. He seems to make better and more appropriate comments than most.

He sucks, but he looks good when compared to guys like Simms or Theisman that are 100 times worse.

Aikmen is absolutely 99.999 % horrible - the only one worse is 'I am god' Theisman.

If any of the sports producers at these networks had a half a brain, they'd put Jaws in the booth. Heck, ESPN doesn't even have the sense to put him on NFL Countdown. Instead, they have Crackhead jabbering away. I guess the suits don't think his X & O analysis can be digested by the viewing public.

Agreed. All I hear from the forum is lists of someone sucking. Very rarely does anyone speak highly of the job done by any announcers. I also think Collinsworth has done a very good job at times. Their knowledge is often reflected by their position. They have both offered up comments that showed me something I did not know. Which is what I expect.

Agreed on Jaws, and not just because he's a Philly guy.

Sean Salisbury's another one I like, who would probably have some good insight if he got more TV time.

I like Salisbury too. A lot of that has to do with the fact that he worked for my dad during the off season while playing for the Vikings and is an extremely nice guy. My dad spoke very highly of him.

I also think he's very intelligent and has a lot of insight, as does Jaws.

I'm biased since I am a Cowboys fan but regardless I think he does a good job.

On a side note I'm dreading Shannon Sharpe's move to the broadcast booth when he retires (likely this year).

Aikman is just OK. He's not the greatest color guy in the world, but he's not the worst.

Who is the worst color commentator in the NFL?

Eugene Robinson, radio color commentator, Carolina Panthers

Aikman cannot be as bad as the worst commentator of all sports of all time: Magic Johnson.

I think Aikman has turned out to be better than most. "well there's no question" is definitely his crutch phrase, but hey just about everyone has a crutch phrase. Collinsworth is much better in the booth than in the studio.

theisman and dierdorf are my 2 least favorite.

Aikman is average but better than most ex-players. He does seem to be getting more arrogant when told the crowd is trying to get his attention. I think in Green Bay he said something like "because I beat them often."

Well true, and I know it isn't bragging if it's true, but soon Collinsworth will start on how many teams he helped beat and then the other guy and then.........
