What do you miss much about sports from the past?

I miss the Minnesota Vikings playing at home in the snow where there opponents were more worried about staying warm than winning the game-a big home field advantage now gone.I also miss American League managers leaving there starting pitchers in the game even though they have given up more than a few runs-the managers knowing that it wasn't necessary to remove him because of the DH and not worried about bringing in a lefthanded pitcher to face a lefthanded batter in the sixth inning.

I miss hockey from a decade ago when there were like 15-20 players scoring 100 points or more every season. Now having 1 point a game is considered good... Teemu Selanne scored 76 times (I think) as a ROOKIE! Now 76 goals in 2 years, and you're an All-World player.

i miss the days when the thugs/gangstas were not everywhere. i liked it better when guys like David Robinson, Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, and Hakeem Olajuwon were typical of the character of a lot of their contemporaries.

i miss the days when athletes would make good plays (slam dunk, touchdown) and actually act like they've done it before. i despise chest-beating and individual show-boating.

i miss the old jerseys of the Astros and Nuggets.

I miss ABC broadcasts of the the Olympics.

I miss the days when I could watch Jordan play w/ Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant, John Paxson and Bill Cartwright.

I miss watching Bill Cartwright shoot free throws.

I miss watching the Bulls kill the Knicks' hopes of a championship year after year.

I miss watching the Duke Blue Devils of the early 1990s - particularly Bobby Hurley, Grant Hill, Thomas Hill and Bryant Davis. And yeah, I liked watching Laettner, too.

I miss listening to Jack Buck.

I miss seeing Darryl Kile's name in the starting rotation every five days.

I don't miss the Astro-turf in Busch Stadium.

I miss Hull and Oates. That's when I was introduced to hockey and when the NHL was at its best, imo.

I miss seeing Brendan Shanahan wearing the Blue note. Same goes for Scott Stevens. What a crock of **** that whole mess was.

I miss Joe Montana throwing to Jerry Rice, John Taylor, Brent Jones and Roger Craig. I miss Steve Young throwing to them, too.

I miss watching Kirby Puckett swing at anything and hit the ball all over the field. I miss watching that short, tubby-bastard run the bases faster than you thought he could. And I miss him roaming the outfield. What a load of talent for someone who was only 5'7" or 5'8".

I miss Kent Hrbek and Gary Gaetti manning the corners for the Twins.

I miss Jack Morris pitching during the '91 World Series.

I actually miss the excitement that Big Mac brought to St. Louis in '98 and when he hit 5 homers in the last weekend of the season to overtake Corky and reach 70.

They still used that song this year when they had some games on NBATV late in the season and early in the playoffs.

Monday Night Football with Cosell, Meredith, and Gifford.
Hearing Don Meredith yelling "at" Roger Staubach to "throw it to Golden Richards", and always saying "Ehprain Herrera from Guadalahara" whenever he came on to kick.

Roger Staubach in general.

The M & M boys, Mantle and Maris.

Vince Lombardy's Packers.

Watching Bobby Oor go the length of the ice to score.

Baseball cards in wax wrappers with gum. A BIG piece of gum.

Yaz with the Red Sox.

Wacky pitchers like Luis Tiant, Al Hraboskie, and Mark Fidryich (ok, even Mitch Williams).

Phil Rizzuto and Bill White doing Yankee broadcasts, and "Scooter" trying to sneak out early to beat the traffic.

When beers at the ball game did not cost $6.50.

I miss players who would sign contracts one day and NOT demand more money the next because someone signed a bigger contract right afterward.

I also miss when the term 'wild card' only had meaning in poker.

I miss watching Sweetness run over, under, around, and thru would-be tacklers...

Same goes for Barry Sanders. Man, those guys were fun to watch. I only wish my kids had seen Sweetness play in his prime.
