CHICAGO -- Looking to add a lefthanded bat to their roster, the New York Yankees acquired outfielder Ruben Sierra from the Texas Rangers for minor league outfielder Marcus Thames on Friday.

A former Yankee, Sierra is batting .263 with three home runs and 12 RBI in 43 games this season in his third career stint with Texas. The switch hitter is expected to be used as a designated hitter and in left field.
why does thames sound so familar?

twikoff 06-06-03 03:18 PM

Thames, who homered on the first pitch he saw in the majors off Arizona's Randy Johnson on June 10, was assigned from Columbus to Triple-A Oklahoma of the Pacific Coast League.

AndyCapps 06-06-03 04:27 PM

If they need outfield help, they should call Ray Lankford.

-rolleyes-600K doesn't break the bank.

That said, Sierra sucks and the 3rd time is not a charm.-ohbfrank-

I am pissed at a couple of Brian Cashman's trading/signing the last couple of years involving the bullpen. First, they should had never let Jeff Nelson go. Who the **** was at his level or better for that role? Total BS about money issue. If the guy wanted 1-2 millions more, let him have since he was a big part of the team that won 4 WS.

Second, letting Mike Stanton go. Sure, he's doing poorly in the Mets now but ****, everyone in the Mets are suckekeke. Did they really believe Chris Hammond can repeat the season he had in 2002? Acevedo, Osuna, & Hitchcock suck as relievers. Give me back my Nelson, Stanton and Mendoza for middle relieve.

Wasting $600k in a bench-warmer DH/LF that is a has been, who posted an 800+ OPS only 3 times in his 17 years career. They should be worrying about their bullpen, not offense.

Does anyone remember that like '92 topps stadium club card with Sierra all pimped out wearing a white hat just chillin on a latin american street? That card still cracks me up to this day...and is one of my faves.

Love that ad....great way for those to make up.

Yankees bullpen is in need of some serious help. As Zuffy wrote they have made some really poor decisions. They used to have one helluva pen and Sierra is just a waste of money and space unless it was for some future deal they are going to make.
