NASCAR Donating to Jesse Jackson

I find it interesting that Nascar donates to Jackson.. since he has nothing at all to do with it. In fact, he's about as far removed from Nascar as someone can be. So... What's this all about? Thoughts?

NASCAR Asked to End Jesse Jackson Support;
NASCAR Supports Troops But Bankrolls Anti-War Jackson

Peter Flaherty, President of the National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC), today sent the following letter to William C. France, CEO of NASCAR:

Because American troops are currently engaged in combat in Iraq, we ask that NASCAR cease and desist from further support for Jesse Jackson and/or his nonprofit organizations.

According to the Richmond Times Dispatch, you have stated that NASCAR fans are "the kind of people who go to war and win wars for America." Branches of the Armed Services and the National Guard maintain important NASCAR sponsorships. Race teams have demonstrated their support for the troops in a variety of ways.

NASCAR's support for our troops is undercut by your support for Jackson, which includes substantial monetary contributions, at a time when Jackson is leading anti-war protests, even in foreign countries. Disturbingly, Jackson has employed extreme and provocative anti-American rhetoric.

NASCAR was a "Platinum" sponsor of the 2002 Rainbow/PUSH and Citizenship Education Fund Annual Conference, reportedly paying $100,000 for the distinction. NASCAR's relationship with Jackson is detailed in a new report I authored and published by the Capital Research Center. See Organizational Trends, April 2003. (www.capitalresearch.org/news/news.asp?ID=111)

Jackson spoke at the January 18, Washington, DC anti-war rally organized by A.N.S.W.E.R., an alleged Marxist front group.

At a March protest in London, Jackson reportedly stated, "Today is not about Saddam Hussein. Today is about Bush and Blair and the massacre they plan for Iraq."

On March 18, Jackson told a rally that the United States would be guilty of "war crimes" if it attacked Iraq. After the military operation began, Jackson on March 27 proposed a "truce."

Toyota has ended support for Jackson's groups in apparent response to my request that it do so, after a wave of negative media coverage last year.

A DaimlerChysler executive touched off a firestorm of criticism in January for remarks critical of Jackson's critics that he made at Jesse Jackson's Wall Street Conference. A copy of his handwritten apology to me is enclosed.

NASCAR gives JJ money so he won't go on TV and preach about how racist NASCAR is because there are no black drivers.

Isn't it obvious that NASCAR is just a front for hate groups  :p ?

Um, I do. I pay to go to a race now and then and would like to see my money not going to an extortionist organization. Could probably make ticket prices a few bucks less if they didn't do crap like this.

Exactly, 2 current topics of events that I absolutely hate. Not surprised they go hand and hand.

What's to hate about Nascar? This is a serious question.. i'm just wondering...

Plain and simple NASCAR wastes limited gas and oil. Second, sitting on your @$$ is not a sport, please I have a headache, I'll pass on my 2 dozen other reasons why I hate NASCAR. In fact, I hate NASCAR about as much as I hate Jesse Jackson so this news doesn't come as much of a surprise.

The likely reason that NASCAR gives JJ money is the same reason that a lot of other companies give JJ money - he extorts it from them (either they give money or he leads protests/boycotts/etc.).

As for lesterlong... -rolleyes-. Yeah, sitting on your ass is not a sport. Try staying alert for 3-4 hours in a car doing nearly 200 MPH less than a foot from other cars also doing 200 MPH.

I dunno.. those guys looks mighty tired at the end of the race. More tired than a golfer or bowler.. When you go to vegas, the 'sportsbook' always has Nascar available for betting so apparently they think it's a sport..

However, you can always go with the "If there's no ball or puck, it's not a sport" theory..

Sadly, that is probably the case. :(

I would think that the relationship between the two should be fairly obvious to everyone.

NASCAR = Redneck jerkoffs driving in a circle.
Jackson = African-American jerkoff talking in a circle.

But seriously, what WildcatLH said. NASCAR has actually become fairly mainstream as of late and Jesse could open his big mouth and take that all away if he were not...uh..."persuaded" not to.
