World Cup Threads and Spoilers in Sports Talk

It is reasonable to expect that when you enter a World Cup thread, a Kings-Lakers NBA playoff thread, or any other thread discussing a sporting event, there will be discussions going on that would spoil the results for you if you haven't seen the event yet. There is no need to use the spoiler tags within posts in Sports Talk. If you don't want to know the outcome of the Kings-Lakers series, please dont' open the Kings-Lakers thread once Game 6 starts.

Please use discretion when choosing a title for your thread. It may be better to have a subject like "Giants vs. Rockies 5/31" or "Can You Believe What Happened in Tonight's Giants-Rockies Game?" instead of a thread with the subject "Barry Bonds' 7 Home Runs Leaves Rockies For Dead" moments after the final out.

Bottom line--if it's that important to you, you'll watch it live.

true and not true. many of us now have a pvr and make much more productive use of our tv viewing time. one of the best uses for devices like replaytv or tivo is sporting events, as these are long broadcasts containing literally hours of commercials. i for one make use of my replay to eliminate much of the non-program related material. by waiting between one and two hours after the event begins before i start watching i can essentially see the entire game in about 1/3 the time as someone watching it live from the beginning...all without missing a single pitch, pass, shot, or putt. and the best part is i can time my viewing so that i actually finish watching the game in real time (live tv) with the rest of the country.

so my point is that while i may not start watching it live, i will finish watching it live. as such i try to avoid any sports tickers or other updates which may spoil the suspense before i begin viewing.

If it's that important to you, you block out the world and watch multiple games throughout a day, many of which actually occurred at the same time. With satellite sports packages and my DirecTiVo, I can watch 3 baseball games in their entirety in a 3 hour period of time and not miss a single pitch. It's that important to me. If I don't watch these games, I can only guess how full of crap c-man is. Now I have proof.

Thanks for the title change. This has been something that's pissed me off for a while now and seemed to go relatively unchecked here in Sports Talk, but I've noticed the mods taking some more interest in it recently, and I very much appreciate it.

Thank you.

Would that also include when sports figures are arrested or died. Nothing is more exciting than seeing a title like"Football player + cocaine + underage girl= ARRESTED! Details inside" or "Another wrestler has passed away. Triple H? Hogan? Foley? Find out inside".

It should be. I was pissed when I saw the thread as I was going to watch it later, but I've already bitched about it enough to no avail.

what would REALLY suck is if someone had coughed up the dough for Pay Per View.. and recorded it to watch later..

and then ran into a spoiler in a thread title
