Re: Will you buy more than one console in the next console generation?

I'll probably take the same approach as I did this generation. Get one system at launch and hold off on a big price drop for the other. This is probably my last Nintendo console though (at least for myself, I guess I can't count one out as a family console). I held off until heavy discounts for both the Wii U and the Switch and still overall don't feel like I got my money's worth. I still gravitate towards the PS4 or XB1 for my game time.

The Switch blows the Wii U out of the water. The PS4 Pro and XBox One X seem like minor upgrades if you compare what the Switch brings to the table vs the Wii U. JMO, of course.

The Switch is a portable, not a console.

The Switch is a portable Wii U. I'm not saying that as a negative, but if you look at the top selling games for the system, that's pretty much what it is.

I can't argue with that. It's a shame Nintendo didn't think of this before investing five years in the Wii U.

I don't think they were ready yet, seeing as how 3DS releases have slowed to a trickle since around the time the Switch came out. They couldn't do that five years prior with the 3DS going strong.

Plus, all the hardcore WiiU fans bought the Switch and re-bought all the games. For the ones who missed out on the WiiU, all these "1.5" games are new to them.

The Switch as we know it would also have been prohibitively expensive in 2012, and sitting on the Wii for another 5 years was not an option.

Not even. 4 years and 4 months between release dates. Also consider the last year of that was a barren wasteland waiting for Zelda to come out. It was at best a 3-3.5 year life cycle.

Eh, I mean I'm of the opinion that the Switch is basically a supercharged Vita with a better docking mechanism and most importantly, massive first party support. But yeah it probably still would have been outside of what Nintendo would want as far as price goes.

Is it though? An ipad mini runs $300-$400 and a Switch is what, half that size?

The first-gen iPad Mini (that debuted practically alongside the Wii U) was $429 for a 32 GB model with less power under the hood, and that doesn't take the dock, joycons, etc. into account.

Maybe? I can see myself owning two. More would be surprising.

Re: Will you buy more than one console in the next console generation?

I have a backlog of games going back to the 360/PS3, then I move to the PS4/XB1 backlog. I'll buy both PS/MS consoles but not at launch this time. Probably 2-3 years later.

Re: Will you buy more than one console in the next console generation?

It totally depends on the games. I don’t play a ton of games but if one of the ones I do play is only a particular console, I’ll probably get it. Probably at least PS unless things like Persona went to multiple platforms.

I said one, meaning the PS5, but as soon as I submitted my answer I remembered how much my kids like Boom Blox on Wii, a recent addition to Saturday afternoons. So maybe a Nintendo, too, we'll see.

I'll get PS5 and whatever the next Switch iteration is. I'm done with Xbox.

Re: Will you buy more than one console in the next console generation?

I've never been a Playstation fan at all so it's always an xbox for me.

With that said, I was considering picking up a switch for the untitled annoying goose game - really might get the switch for that game alone.

Re: Will you buy more than one console in the next console generation?

Yes. This generation I have all three and initially had no plans to get the Switch or Xbox (but was curious about the Swirch) , but eventually got them (when the price was right). Xbox One, I never planned on, but now I use it mainly for Youtube TV. With the added bonus of 4K BDs and Cuphead.

So basically the Xbox One for me is what the PS3 was in early 2008. Streaming/BD media only unless I really want a game.

I think I’ll at least get two next time, but definitely not at launch.
