Reviews on Steam have been overwhelmingly negative. Apparently the PC version is chock full of bugs that render the game nearly unplayable.

Re: JUST CAUSE 4: Xbox One / PS4
I will say the grapple hook is still fun, and even more so now. Found lots of ways to destroy with it and only just started playing. The balloons add a nice element.
Oh, and I bought the Gold Edition as well. That's how high my hopes were.

I'm going to just keep my copy and hope it gets patched. I have such a back-log, I can wait (and it isn't the first or last game I buy that never gets played if that turns out to be the case). The pain of shipping back to Amazon isn't worth my time these days.

Re: JUST CAUSE 4: Xbox One / PS4
What amazes me is this game went Gold well in advance of release date and yet no first day patch. Impossible that they were unaware of so many glaring problems. The graphics at times are PS2 quality they are that bad. The driving has taken a dive since JC2 as well, just not fun. I am sticking with it simply because the action can be fun, but this game has a massive amount of work ahead of it if Square are gonna qualm any unhappy voices.

Re: JUST CAUSE 4: Xbox One / PS4
OK, so had a couple of hours on it. Not good news to report I am sorry to say. The graphics are passable, but that's about all I can say. I think the graphics for JC2 might actually be better. There are some weird movement haze around at times which makes it look even worse. Cut scenes are horrible. The gameplay itself is fine and blowing shit up is always fun, however whereas in JC2 there was a lull at times and you could find different ways to attack a base, this just feels like mindless non stop shooting. The action is actually fun, and I can see that the longer I play this the more I might like it, but I could never recommend this as a day one purchase.
My love for JC2 got me to buy JC3 day one and I regretted it, the videos and previews of JC4 got some faith back into me and I took a chance on this as a day one purchase. That will not happen again with JC5 if it ever comes out.

I found it funny to read "HDR Capable" on the front of the box.

Re: JUST CAUSE 4: Xbox One / PS4
OK, so a fee more hours with it today. Its funny but the more I have played it the more I have enjoyed it on a surface level as an action game. All three problems still persist, but at least the action is fun. I do have to admit that I love the design of the sandbox, its just such a shame that the textures are so shitty. If more time was pumped into making this look current gen it would help a great deal. They have done a great job in making the map feel familiar and yet unique and feel quite fresh. I also came across the tornado for the first time today. Was taking on a large wind research facility at the time and got blown around quite a bit. A fun little extra, but nothing spectacular for what it is.
At one point during my play it hit night and I literally couldn't see anything. Went through a sandstorm at one point and the same, but at least it's supposed to hinder visibility.
I will be curious to see what the updates do for this, and will keep the thread in the know.

I ended up finishing JC3 with the exception of the challenges. Getting 5 gears for the wingsuit and shooting challenges was impossible for me. I will eventually get JC4 when is really cheap or wait for it to become a PS+ free game of the month which happened for JC3.

Re: JUST CAUSE 4: Xbox One / PS4
I did play Mad Max, and enjoyed it a great deal. The storms didnt bother me too much in that, but you don't need to worry in this. The tornado can be seen from a long distance away as the cloud make the cone in the far distance. I came across one storm so far and it was similar to the Mad Max and kind of annoying. Zero visibility, but it seemed to be just located in the desert part which makes sense.
I am enjoying the action of JC4 at this point, but whereas I enjoyed all vehicles travel and play in JC2, this feels more in line with the first game. Cars feel like they are driving on ice and little fun to be had with anything. I did a mission today where I needed to use motorbikes a d the littles knock would send me flipping and spinning. Super annoying. I am gonna blast through the game on foot as much as I can, but doubt it will be getting go much replays unless the updates make drastic. Changes.

Re: JUST CAUSE 4: Xbox One / PS4
Well I completed the main game. I ended up enjoying it more by the end, and somewhere here are the makings of a great game, I truly wish they had spent more time to get the quality of the visuals and the bugs fixed before shipping. One mission has you chasing the tornado and that was great fun, and this game needed more elements like that. The game ended with a very mild roar and you don't even take on a final boss. With JC2 I kept coming back to the game as whatever you destroyed stayed destroyed, in this game it respawns. I think that element should have been optional in the menu. I will probably get back to this game in the future when I want to just blast and gun for fun, but it probably now won't be on a regular basis. Shame. One things for sure, JC5, if it comes out, will not be a day one purchase.

Re: JUST CAUSE 4: Xbox One / PS4
There is some fun to be had, but it's kind of a drag. As you said, driving sucks. There's no fast travel that I've seen yet and everything is really spread out. The new ballon and booster grapples suck. The balloon one could have been fun but every time I use it, I end up tethering baddies to the ground like 8 feet in the air. That's not what I want to do!
I did accidentally do the most awesome death though : after blowing up a gas tank, I tried to tether a gal over the open flame, but I just missed and she was hanging next to it. I tried moving her closer with another tether and ended up having her on a spit rotating around and around from both ends over an open flame like a rotisserie chicken. Gruesome but hilarious.

The new tethers do take a little getting used to. Its important to remember that you have to switch between ability. And i believe there is a fast way on the controller to do this, but cannot recall off the top of my head what it is. The physics of the game are the best thing about it, and i have to admit that some of the escapes i have made with massive explosions going off behind me put most hollywood movies to shame.
I am curious to see what the update does today. Probably very little. I did have one mission where i had to protect a soldier and he kept getting stuck on the same spot. I tethered him away from it, but son of a bitch kept running back to the spot and getting stuck on it. Had to restart the mission multiple times before it worked properly. Stuff like that really hurts a games fun levels.

I had the mission where I had to escape the airport with that lady but she would not get in most of the vehicles that I would find. She would just stand there and take bullets while I tried to find the ride of her dreams. Also, that drive was long as hell.

Re: JUST CAUSE 4: Xbox One / PS4
So I downloaded the update. I am shocked. Truly shocked. The game is WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY better now. I am amazed at how much better it plays and looks now. Only played about an hour but DAMN am I having a hell of a lot more fun with it now.
OK, so first thing. The graphics have been cleaned up and look far better. Don't expect RDR2 level details, but much more inline with what I originally hoped for. Secondly, the motion blur can now be turned off or adjusted as desired. This seems to help a hell of a lot. I turned it off completely and the game looks crisp now.
Also, I noticed in the control menu you can turn off the auto align when driving cars. Not sure if this is new or not, but it makes driving the way it should be. When the camera would automatically rotate back to front and center it made driving horrible. This now feels like it should be. Also driving just seems to feel a lot more like it should. Not sure how much they have changed it, but feels great now.
Final thing I have noticed early on, and again this may been I before, but I see in the menu you can have the jetpack operational when you use the glide wings. This really opens up flying and makes it soooooooooooooooo much friggin fun.
I dont think I have ever seen a game have so many adjustments so quickly to right a games wrong, but JC4 has done it. I would actually change my opinion now and say anyone that loved JC2 should go ahesd and get this asap. It feels very much now like the successor it promised to be. If they keep doing updates to improve the game like this then it's really gonna make this into what it promised and more.

That's good to hear! Other forums have people saying that not only has the patch not done anything noticeable outside of the motion-blur, but that it's made the game look even worse... which I find hard to believe.

Re: JUST CAUSE 4: Xbox One / PS4
People may not be adjusting the settings. I am playing on a PS4, so not sure how other systems are looking after the update.
But if people are seeing the same as me then they are dead wrong on their assessment. I have since gone back to some of the areas where I was disgusted with the quality when first playing and its far better. As I said, its no Red Dead Redemption 2, but I never expected graphics of that high quality. I think maybe a lot of people have already cast their vote on this game and simply don't care now. Shame as this update is a huge step in the right direction.

Wait, did they get rid of liberating towns/areas on your own? And I've read that installations that you've destroyed end up respawning. That's some bullshit - even with it's faults, what I liked about JC3, was clearing the map by liberating everything on the map. If that's not a feature here, then it really hobbles the game in my eyes.

The whole thing is kinda weird and I just keep thinking I liked the structure of JC2 so much better where you keep hitting, raiding and destroying the bases until they're 100% ruined and then you move on.

It's weird what they do here : You build up units by creating havoc and then when you have enough units you "advance" them into an adjacent region and take control of it. Not like in AC : Odyssey where you battle for it, you just kind of claim it. Like RISK but without a dice roll.
