Slime, Goo, & Toxic Waste

I vote for neither, it's a big world and kind of a bummer to only acknowledge Asian or European areas. If Hispanic Horror gets the votes then maybe it should replace both Asian and European. The list on the first page only has a few hispanic films but there are a lot of genre icons like Paul Naschy, Jess Franco, Amando de Ossorio, Guillermo Del Toro, Jaume Balagueró, José Ramón Larraz, etc etc there should be plenty.

Should we limit it to just one 'awards' day? It might seen redundant to have a IMDB Top Rated day then a Rondo Hatton Best day; maybe combine both into one day? (There are plenty of options for each to have their own day, but maybe they're too similar of a theme?)

I second this. I'm sure we could come up with a decent sized list if we search IMDB for horror country of origin for Argentina (185), Bolivia (6), Chile (40), Colombia (33), Costa Rica (4), Cuba (7), Dominican Republic (16), Ecuador (4), El Salvador (3), Guatemala (5), Honduras (2), Mexico (472), Nicaragua (0), Panama (2), Paraguay (1), Peru (30), Puerto Rico (30), Spain (575), Uruguay (8) and Venezuela (17).

Granted, some of the movies listed seem to just have had some scenes filmed in said countries, but that's the same issue I've had finding Asian and European titles as well. There looks to be more than enough to support a theme day.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

I enjoy bad horror movies so I'd like to vote for IMDB Low Rated, as well.
I was planning to watch the Hobgoblins blu this year anyway.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

My wife is pregnant, and she'll likely give birth during the challenge, so I won't be able to view as much this year.

That being said, it would be awesome to have any of the following as part of the challenge (and to have my subset coincide with one of these themes):
New:
Pregnancy Horror:
https://letterboxd.com/holliehorror/...ecting/detail/ (72 titles)

Returning:
Children (Evil) - 2010
Demented Dads & Bad Mothas - 2014
Evil Families - 2013

Congratulations! And I hear that certain things can put women into (safe) early labor....

Nice choices. Baby horror films creep me out. Seconded!

Congratulations! Kids are such a bizarre blend of love and terror. With a newborn kid and the lack of sleep that's sure to follow you will be amazed at the amount of time you'll likely spend, all hours of the day or night, trying to sooth the kid, feed it, etc etc etc. The type of midnight stuff where the tv might be your only companion in the special kind of heaven/hell that is parenthood.

I edited my list to add Pregnancy Horror as a yes vote.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

I could have sworn that we did pregnancy horror before, but I couldn't find it. I thought I even remembered the subset pic for it as well. I guess not.

Just to clarify, though, gore is not a new theme. It was previously used in 2011. Not that I would mind revisiting that theme.

I will add a Media Home Entertainment vote and a Hispanic horror vote if that one is possible. If it isn't, I would go with European horror.

It's surprising we haven't done Mexico excluding the checklist entry. I know we attempted a South American theme in the past, and availability was the problem. Are there enough of those on Blu/DVD and streaming for those who aren't region free?

And yes, putting Spain (which we did do separately in 2010) would give us more than enough, but it would also just be recycling part of the Euro theme. Then again, if only one is used not a problem.

Again, we've done Euro and Asian five times apiece (if you count the BFI link for Euro), so maybe it is time for another change?

Let me look into this a little more, which means you should probably expect another poll coming soon.

Didn't realize there were so many in the top 250 there. Plenty of Hammer and Universal, that's for sure. Maybe.

Its been on the suggestions list for at least the last two challenges.

I think I realized why I got extra mixed up. I kept remembering the daily pick Baby Blues that we used years ago, but it looks like it was from way back before we matched up the daily films with the themes.

Thanks! We're definitely expecting this to be the scariest October yet - but also the best!

And congrats to cwileyy, I also added pregnancy horror in honor of that.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Here are a few more votes as I didn't make it through the list completely.

Pregnancy Horror
Nepotism Dynasty

I'm going to toss in Apocalyptic horror as well, because I've always had a good time with that one, and I didn't see it in the list but it's probably there.

I've always shied away from the pregnancy horror because I was pretty freaked out by that poster for Grace. Congrats to cwileyy, and I've also added pregnancy horror to honor that.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 13: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

And there's still 8 subset spots remaining. We're falling behind, people. This could turn out to be the first time ever that all volunteer spots were filled before subset picking even begins. Seriously.

Also, I'll be announcing the first round of themes making the cut very soon. Don't know how many rounds there will be before hitting the elimination round, because you never know how things will work out. Just a heads up for those who haven't voted.

Yeah, I've noticed that, and they are. Always be sure to check the Returning Favorites section under the suggestions before voting. The Chrono Horror Years already achieved "permanent" rotating status, and Apocalyptic was added to the vampire theme for reasons I can't remember and just stuck around. And Halloween? Come on!

It's late, so here's the biggest vote-getter for each category that made the cut...

Small Town Horrors (new)

Splatter/Gore (returning)

I'll announce more tomorrow.

Anyone have some good indy releases in the horror world that I should buy? I've got Autopsy of Jane Doe lined up, but wondering what some other good recent ones are.
