Let's all do that for movies we don't like. Start a thread just to dump on it out of nowhere.

Nah. Let's not.

Bold move to rip on Heat around here. Might as well rip on Del Toro and Michael Fassbender while you're at it.

Every one of his observations is valid and made me laugh. If someone is funny about it, they can trash whatever sacred cinematic cow they like.

It's all the fecal metaphors that pump this up to like Pulitzer level criticism.

This might have gotten a rise out of me before I read the thread, Movies You Were Once All About But Are Now Over. If there is a movie hell, the blasphemy there will doom most of those posters to it. This post is good for a short stay in purgatory.

I love Heat. It's Michael Mann's best film and the last great film made by both Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro.

Re: Heat is a hilariously taped-up mess

I bought Heat on DVD when it first came out and was surprised how average it was to me.

I agree that DeNiro plays the part a little too subtle. He was pretty boring most of the time.

I was a big fan of Al Pacino, particularly his performance at the time in Donnie Darko. Lefty was much more interesting than the cop he was playing here.

I'll have to rewatch it again because of how much love the movie gets here.

It's the Internet. Someone must be misusing the word "pretentious" right around now

Re: Heat is a hilariously taped-up mess

I don't think it's Mann's best movie, but even Mann's worst movies are still excellent. Heat works as a deconstruction of an action movie, flushing out the characters that you'd normally take for granted. I like the tone, and Mann goes for a more realistic portrayal, which might come off as a bit bland. Parts are a little overlong and I agree on DeNiro no longer being the great pillar of acting that he's known to be, but this movie holds up fine for me.

Re: Heat is a hilariously taped-up mess

Wow, convincing arguments the OP made there...I guess all crime/police movies should be solely judged by the looks of the characters alone. So I guess Heat is on the same level as that other classic:
