I thought this was pretty good. Very well made. But I don't see general audiences liking this at all as it is not really a traditional horror film.

Yup, there were groans and plenty of people saying "what?" as the credits started to role.
I liked it though. Edgerton's character was a cold motherfucker.

Sounds like the same type of reactions the Witch was getting last year. Is this sort of similar in that way?

I enjoyed The Witch. In terms of scares and a good story (for those that LIKED) that The Witch had, is it in the same boat?

Yea, The Witch is an apt comparison, in that it's more of an indie/arthouse horror flick. I'd say this is The Witch mixed with the paranoia of Coherence, if anyone remembers that movie.

One reason I really liked it was his performance. Yes, he was a cold motherfucker, but I feel like the performance hinted at him hating who he has become and not wanting to have to be so cold. Little things like just apologizing after yelling at his son or the way he interviews Will. He doesn't like being this way, but it is just the reality of things.

Loved Coherence as well.
Didn't much care for this. Well-acted and directed, but ultimately just ended and felt like a waste of time.

Saw this on Friday. Thought it was alright.
Cinematography & Score are fantastic, as are the performances from Joel Edgerton & Kelvin Harrison Jr. but the film meanders too often. There are some beautifully tense moments that I wish led up to much more.

I might catch this on Tuesday. The RT score is encouraging, but word of mouth ("boring" "predictable" "waste of time") and comparisons to The Witch (I did not like The Witch at all) are making me think I should just go see Wonder Woman again and check this out when it's streaming.

Critically acclaimed horror rarely delivers on the "thrills" front for me. I did like It Follows though, despite some things not making a lick of sense to me (the pool sequence).

I just got back from seeing this with a bunch of friends. Of the six of us, nobody really liked it all that much. Just as a comparison, three of us had seen The Witch together, and we all loved that.
This may be a bit of a spoiler (so I'll spoilerize it anyway), but the film that this most reminded me of, although in a totally different genre, was
Overall, I appreciate what it tried to do, but it just didn't have enough artistry in its execution to make it anything more than a one-and-done watch for me.

From Box Office Guru:
Ouch!
The horror film It Comes at Night opened poorly in sixth place with an estimated $6M from 2,533 runs for a weak $2,369 average. The R-rated chiller from A24 earned vastly different reactions from film critics and audiences as reviews were mostly good while the CinemaScore grade was a dreadful D which is poor even by fright film standards. The budget was just under $5M.

With exception to the anti climatic ending, I thought this was great.
For some reason this film made me think of the original Alien, in the way that so much of it remained a mystery. Also, it made me think how silly it would be for It Comes At Night to have a bunch of prequels explaining the mysterious aspects of this film. Furthermore it really made me realize how little Ridley Scott understands his own film.
But I digress, Riley Keough is fucking hot and a great actress. As is Edgerton (the great actor part at least).

Just saw this. Little disappointed. Good performances and cinematography. But it creates questions that are not answered. Too many questions.

Just saw this today and the best part of the film was the cinematography. It's a mess and a frustrating one. I love slow burn movies but if folks want to compare this to The Witch then that's fine -- I hated that one, too. The switching of the aspect ratios was also neat.
The trailer was great, but folks should taper their expectations, because it's nothing like the trailer.

The themes are totally different, but the same level of dread is spread throughout. Just whatever marketing you've seen -- it's the complete opposite.
You can get it already via Digital HD on VUDU.
