The only thing I've gone to YouTube for was the Twin Shrines. Once I saw the solution I felt pretty stupid for not understanding the clue the shrine gives

Jumping off of Sterling's review, would anything be lost if this game gave you unlimited stamina, and weapons that didn't break?

Serious question.

Constantly staring at that stamina wheel really detracts from the game. As for weapon breakage, if they never broke, you would just keep dropping under-powered weapons as you found stronger weapons anyways, and it would make you use your better weapons, instead of like it is now, where you use the better weapons sparingly because you're afraid they'll break.

The game is long/big enough - they did not need these mechanics to make it even longer.

Agreed. "Breakable weapons" is, in my humble opinion, the fucking worst.
Stamina... ehh. I get it. I don't like it, but I can deal. Fuck breakable weapons though.

It's hilarious how the amiibos that work with this game are suddenly all sold out and going for crazy amounts of money. If nintendo were smart (they're not), they would put out box-sets of the old amiibos that work with this game.

Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild (March 3, 2017 - Switch/Wii U)

Weirdly, I'm in favor of both stamina and breakable weapons. If weapons are unbreakable, there'd be a tendency to find a weapon that works great for you and never use anything else (or have a small rotation). Destructible weapons force you to vary your play style, experiment more, improvise more on the fly, and approach things more strategically. As far reserving high level weapons because you don't want them to break...I prioritize but don't limit myself. The good stuff lasts a long while, and a weapon as good / better than the one you have in your hands is usually right around the corner anyway. I can't even carry all the high-ish level weapons I've found along the way. Constantly having to drop stuff to make room, and that's okay too. I will say that pausing the action to switch weapons -- repeatedly in some encounters -- can be a drag, and I'd still even say that Witcher III did it better where weapons degrade, are more consistently/easily repairable, and can be broken down to make new stuff. At the same time, quality weapons are way more abundant here, so...not quite apples to apples.

There's an element of problem solving / puzzle solving / experimentation to a lot of the exploration, and unlimited stamina would kill that dead. I have to admit that I'm pretty far into the game and have almost never found myself fundamentally limited by the amount of stamina I have. (I mean, I've certainly run out many, many times, but there hasn't been a situation where I couldn't work around it so far.) I did one upgrade at the very beginning and did a second this weekend, prioritizing hearts instead. The only thing I'd tried to access and couldn't with the first stamina upgrade was the labyrinth at the top-right of the map, but I could get it after a second. If I'd taken a stamina elixir or a speed boost, I wouldn't have even needed to do that.

On paper, I'd hate limited stamina and destructible weapons, but in practice, they really haven't been an issue for me.

Really good Breath of the Wild podcast done by The Ringer network's Achievement Oriented podcast.
Almost makes me want to go out and buy a Switch.

Yeah stamina is crucial to the way they designed this game, I don't see it working as well if you could scale any mountain, cross any river and run circles around every enemy with no penalties.

The breakable weapon thing is an annoyance but I can understand that decision as well, even though I'd argue that the weapon designs aren't varied enough to truly make you feel like you're experimenting. I mean if you like one handed swords you'll be stocking up on one handed swords. They should have absolutely separated the tools from the weapons, though, I have no idea why you'd want an axe that breaks.

For me, the biggest "screw this" is not being able to climb when it rains. The blood moon seems like it can be kind of buggy (got three in one night!), but that's not too big a deal.

So are all weapons breakable? Or do some dungeons have like permanent weapons

All except one, from what I understand, although I haven't gotten the weapon in question yet, and it apparently has its own limitations.

I guess that is pretty cool to have a different system than just upgrade to the next best thing after x amount of time.

Fishing is one of my small gripes with the game. They went so far with everything else, why not just give us a fishing pole to relax with?

I'm probably 60-70 hours in at this point. Finished 3 of the Beasts and am now just exploring and filling in side stuff I haven't completed yet. So much to do.

BTW, what's the preferred order of tackling the beasts? I've already done the Zora one. Is there one I should do next, or does it not really matter?

It doesn't matter, as far as I can tell. I would suggest the Bird race next, only becuase the bonus you get for completing is useful while doing other things (as is the Zora revive).

He's fucking with you dude. Xbox won't see this one until at least 2018 since Nintendo made a deal with themselves for exclusivity the first year of release.
