I'm really excited, even as someone who's only really enjoyed the 2D Zelda games

Metascore is 98 after 56 critics

Game is also available for the Wii U and from what I have seen so far on the comparisons its very close overall. I have a few friends with the Wii U and advised them to pre order for store pick up at bestbuy as I have a feeling WII U games will not be in big supply due to them phasing out the system and pushing the switch.

Yeah, that's my plan as well. I know I won't touch this game for a few months with Horizon & Mass Effect, but not sure what the supply is going to be like when I'm ready to grab it. If it's anything like Zelda TP was on the Gamecube / Wii, it's going to be hell to find later. So I'll pick it up tomorrow and toss it on the shelf until I'm ready. At least I was able to get it with the Visa Checkout promo & GCU, so it's only costing me $40 after tax.

It looks like I'm not getting the game on release day from Amazon although I preordered a few weeks back. Currently says that I'll get it on Tuesday next week.

Watched the side by side videos and the graphics don't like significantly better enough to make me want to buy it for the Switch. The only negative would be playing it on that WIiU gamepad which is probably the worst controller in gaming history. I stopped buying WiiU games just for that.

I never bought a WiiU because of that.

Looking forward to this (U version).

Some initial impressions were that the world was overly empty and barren with little to do or find in most spots - like Wind Waker, only with land instead of sea.

Pretty glad that this turned out to not be much of an issue.

I was extremely skeptical about the gamepad when I first saw it, assuming it was awful to use as a controller because -- y'know, how could it not be? -- but it's surprisingly comfortable and ergonomic. In practice, it's generally a moot point because of the pro controller. I did play a fair number of games all the way through with the gamepad, though.

Play this video for her:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/HEU2ZqpnBk0?ecver=1" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

...and, hey, you can get Breath of the Wild too!

Has there been any photos or video of what is going to be shown on the gamepad? I figured that would be a slam dunk for a Zelda game, with instant access to a map and inventory management without pulling it up on the TV.

Yeah really got to disagree with you on that. It was big, unwieldy and some games it almost felt impossible to use successfully mainly with first person shooters. It's easily the worst controller ever and unfortunately I didn't know about the pro controller until recently which even then I might not have purchased it for $50.

You haven't played a lot of game consoles. The Intellivision and Jaguar are two that immediately leap to mind as being immeasurably more clumsy than the Wii U gamepad. Wasn't there an Atari system where the joystick didn't recenter? I wouldn't even rank it as the worst controller for a Nintendo system, let alone throughout the decades that span the entirety of gaming history. (NES controllers are incredibly uncomfortable, the N64 layout is a mess, and I haaaaaaaaaaaate Wiimote motion controls.)

Maybe I just have very differently shaped hands or something, but I played through Black Ops II almost entirely on the gamepad, to name one, and had no issues. It looks unwieldy, but it didn't feel that way to me in practice. (Surprisingly, the gamepad is my wife's controller of choice -- never interested in the pro -- and she's almost a foot shorter than me, so I don't think hand size factors in all that much.) Fair enough if that wasn't your experience, of course.

From what people with early copies on NeoGAF are saying, none. There's off-screen play (and something about using the gyro for certain puzzles?), but that's it.

Since the Sheikah Slate is so reminiscent of the gamepad, speculation is that's the gamepad factored in heavily at one time, but that was stripped away so that there'd be parity with the Switch.

This is going to be epic. Nobody expected a Zelda game to disappoint, but this sounds better than anyone could have hoped. A new high watermark after the impact Ocarina left..?

Reminder for anyone with a Wii U: there is a B2G1 promo next week at Target that you may be able to work this into.

It's kinda odd, but I still haven't gotten anything about my Best Buy order. It's still showing processing, yet I'm supposed to pick it up tomorrow?

Weird, since plenty of people at my Best Buy were picking up just copies of Zelda apparently during the midnight launch here.

Dunno if they'll be there for a few more days, but the Target down the road from me had copies in-stock for the Wii U this morning.

They also had at least one of the gigantic special editions for the Switch, although it was locked up.

Impressions?

I just bought it, but I probably won't be able to play it 'till tomorrow morning, at the earliest.

Good to know, I guess - I will be holding out the few days to use the sale.

I'm counting on the relatively low number of U owners out there..

Sounds like a port I can live with. I still don't understand why they didn't use the tablet for a map or inventory, that is just baffling. Oh well, I'll be using a controller anyways.
