I'm about to start chipping away at story. Just had to take a break after that dungeon. It was brutal.

The way I've been playing is to get all side quests I see on the map as I progress and basically I just start attacking main quests or side quests starting with the lowest recommended level first and working my way up.

Doing this I've found myself staying over leveled for the most part and thought maybe I didn't have to do this but I think somewhere in Chapter 3 or so I did a main quest that had a relatively low recommended level and then right after I finished it the next main quest it opened jumped pretty significantly ( I want to say almost 10 levels).

So not sure if that was a one time deal or if it's something they built in because of all the side quests.

Anyways I find it working for me as I tend to get a tad OCD about having a ton of open sidequests and fearing that if I get too far in the story some of them either get locked or just so easy that it's not even worth doing. Though to be fair this isn't exactly Witcher 3 where the side quests are awesome and actually fun to do...

I'm impressed with this game from a technical perspective. But what the hell is up with the screwy driving and character designs? They moved away from Emo kids and moved toward strippers with goofy hair.

I really fucking hate pressing the X button when I see the prompt on screen to do something and instead seeing Noctis jump around like an idiot. The responsiveness of a simple command like that is terrible.

What, you don't like playing a "beautiful boy adventure"?

I'm in the post-game now at about 60 hours. Still enjoying doing the side quests and hunts. I have a lot of issues with how the story flowed and missed opportunities they explored but the fact that I'm still playing says that I have enjoyed it.

I'm about 20 hours in and still only on Chapter 6 doing side quests. I'm enjoying the game a lot still.

Yeah. That's a terrible part of the game. The other bad part is after you finish the game and you get
Spoiler:
the flying car and if it clips a tree or other obstacle, it's game over.

Really stupid decision and I hope and pray it's changed in a patch.

Re: Final Fantasy XV Discussion Thread (Sep 30th, 2016 / PS4, Xbox One)

Got this game for Christmas. I am on Chapter 3 and logged in over 50 hours.

I got distracted by doing the side quests, hunts, fishings, and just general open world exploring I love to do in the GTA series.

Currently, at Level 41 and have 100k of EXP that I have cashed in yet. Needlessly to say, I think I will be way over powered when I actually start to do the main quest.

Haven't been hooked on a game like this since Destiny.

With that much XP make sure to rest at an inn. There's one by the beach (the resort ?)that gives out double the XP.

Yeah that's my plan when I start doing the main quest. A lot of quests were easy EXP points so I was stacking them, then before I knew it I had all this EXP.

edit: I had to rest up so I could get the Ultima Blade from Cid. Went from 41 to 53.

I'm around chapter 8 or 9, and the story and transition between chapters still don't make much sense to me.

Spoiler:
I still don't really get why random imperial people seem to help me. Gladio leaves just because... although isn't he supposed to be protecting me? Also, one minute I'm finding ore, the next minute i'm in a weird suit in a power plant alone with little to no explanation other then a few hours later "there's a problem." I don't really understand how they botched the story stuff so badly ignoring really basic story telling elements.

You haven't seen anything yet. It gets even more obtuse and hamfisted in its final act. Luckily, outside of chapter 13, each of the final chapters in the game is only about an hour or so long.

Yeah, I had to watch a story overview after I finished to really understand what was going on. Really enjoyed the game; story was a bit of a mess.

If you bought the game at Best Buy, you should be able to get some money back this week. It falls in the post-Christmas return window since it came out on 11/29/16. It's on sale for $39.99 ($31.99 with GCU), so if you preordered it you should be able to get $16 back and still keep your $10 RZ certificate. I'm going to try it today after work....

Finished the game, it was a lot of fun, ended up logging in 131 hours.

My only complaint was Chapter 13, that was boring as fuck to me. I am also disappointed that all the side quests couldn't be done until the main story was completed.

Wasn't there supposed to be an update that supposedly "fixed" chapter 13? Or did you get to it before the update?

It's not out yet, and I don't think there's been word on when it would be out.

What's wrong it? We knew it was a themed event. Were you expecting different?

I actually haven't paid any attention to the planned DLC other then knowing there were going to be individual character ones coming down the line, so this is new to me. That and I think it looks silly.

Reminds me of the Golden Saucer section of FF7. That was my favorite part

Re: Final Fantasy XV Discussion Thread (Sep 30th, 2016 / PS4, Xbox One)

Finally finished the main story. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but it's more disappointing to think how great the game could have been if they added bits to make the story more coherent, some more character development for a lot of the side characters, and changed up the pacing of the game from the first 2/3's of the game versus the last parts. It's sad how bad the story in these games have gotten after how good the SNES/PS1 era games were in that area.

I did most of the side quests, but not sure if I care enough to really go back and play more. I think I might wait for most of the DLC to come out to revisit it.
