Where the hell is Bonfire of the Vanities? That was an amazing book, a voracious read. The movie was a total and complete disaster, legendarily so.

Okay that list is only for books and movies that came out in the Metacritc era. In other words it's completely meaningless.

"Water For Elephants" was a great read that took you to a bygone era. I even took a trip to the Barnum and Bailey Museum in Sarasota,FL after I was finished (not too far a drive for me). When reviews for the movie came out and I read how much they had changed, I didn't even bother watching it. From what I have heard, I'm better off for it.

Re: The book was better than the movie

Let the Right One In deserves a spot on the book-better-than-movie list. I really like both versions of the movie, to be honest, but when the American remake was announced, I'd hoped it would include some of the subplots and characters from the novel that had been excised in the original film. Unfortunately, it was just a near scene-for-scene remake—a good one, to be sure, but it didn't add anything.
