I will at least give it to Man of Steel that for all of its flaws the story is at least coherent for the most part unlike Batman V Superman.

No, Bay is incoherent and can't edit action scenes to save his life. At least not now. Snyder at least lets you see the action without 2 second edits all over the place.

If Michael Bay directed Man of Steel, it would be tough to tell Zod and Superman apart and Jimmy Olson would have been the main character.

It was like the producers said, "Yeah, it is way too much, and should be cut in half for a more coherent, enjoyable movie, but we paid for it, so every second of FX stays in the movie!"
It was all twice as much as was necessary. Add that to the mediocre (at best) script and you've got a movie that is less than satisfying.

I still love Snyder's visuals, but like with Sucker Punch the spectacle goes on for too long that I felt numb to it and stopped feeling excited as the action unfolded. I honestly haven't had that problem with Bay.

You a Transformers fan or something? Not that he was coherent before that. Armageddon was the first of his films to use that 2-3 second cut for every scene.

I didn't have a problem with the action or the stakes - just the absurd length and repetitive nature of the battles. It made the movie drag and it actually became boring. You can only watch so much of any one fight before it gets tiresome - and tiring.

I think that's funny since most of the outrage stems from the movie not being faithful enough to your little picture books.

I'll stop short of saying 'love' but I really like MoS... once the Krypton intro bullshit is over.
It has plenty of flaws, color palette is jacked, and Superman doesn't get to be Superman, but I still enjoy it quite a bit.

I liked most of the Krypton stuff. I really hate the film's colors though. Krypton especially had a very bland but sheen color palette. Actually even the Krypton ship and tech looked ugly.

The Krypton scenes are awesome in my opinion. Loved Crowe as Jor-El and honestly Shannon was pretty good as Zod too even though I think the parts with Zod are what later bring the overall film down. The whole opening is one of the best things about Man of Steel to me personally. I also don't mind Clark wandering and helping people and the flashbacks to his childhood. The action sequences are when the film falls apart. Like I said shortly after he discovers the ship and his suit is when the film falls apart to me. I don't mind seeing him testing out his powers but the confrontations with Zod and company are what drag the film down. Also I agree about the colors being way too dreary.
