Re: Mad Max

Yeah, if you watch it, their review here is overwhelmingly positive.

Gamespot only gave it a 6.

That review sounds great. Framerate issues worry me though. Huge pet peeve of mine in gaming.

Re: Mad Max

Gamespot is terrible these days.

Not arguing about validity of that particular score, but seriously, I used to love that site.

Polygon: 5/10
Gamespot: 6/10
IGN: 8.4/10
GamesRadar: 4/5
God is a Geek: 7.5/10
Game Informer: 7.5/10

Word from people that have been playing it today is that the frame rate issues have already been patched.

Re: Mad Max

My copy of Mad Max from Best Buy rang out at 39.99 plus tax (bundle) instead of my GCU price of 47.99 plus tax. I purchased this and the movie on the same receipt so it must be giving a greater bundle discount. Alright with me.

Re: Mad Max

I've enjoyed my first three hours with this. It's like all games mashed into one game. All the games.

Re: Mad Max

Solid game; captures the tone of the films well and is by no means easy; really puts the Arkham games to shame in the difficulty category.

Re: Mad Max

I hope this game does well and about every trailer of in-game footage looks good. I can see the single player aspect but this game would be a blast if there was some "Horde" type mode where 2-3 Mad Max characters could defend an outpost, platform or depot of some kind much like in the Mad Max 2 movie. hope to see and hear more on this....may end up being another sleeper hit like Shadow of Mordor.

Re: Mad Max

This looks like one movie tie-in game that is worth its price tag. Adding to my must-play list.

Re: Mad Max

I played it for an hour or two. Pretty fun so far.

They could have done a better job with the button mapping. Making the same button for "Drop Down" and "Fire your incredibly rare shotgun ammo at nothing in particular"? Not the brightest decision.

Re: Mad Max

I've got 9-10 hours in and love it. The only problem is that you could be having a car battle and they just disappear. Sucks when you spend a couple of minutes ramming them for scraps to have them just go bye, bye. The map is pretty damn massive and detailed.

Re: Mad Max

Thirteen hours in and about 25% complete, hasn't felt repetitive at all.

This is what kind of worried me.

How varied are your objectives?

Re: Mad Max

The game is somewhat repetitive but also addicting. You knock down scarecrows, take out snipers, search a bunch of little sites/camps for scraps, take down various camps, tackle caravans of 6 vehicles (maybe more), run races, search for water, upgrade Max and his vehicle(s) and do the story missions. Using the harpoon from a vehicle on other vehicles or people is bad ass. I'm around 25% finished as well with about 12-13 hours played. There is a lot of little stuff to do to get the platinum. It will be a bit of a pain in the ass but someone has already Platted it. Go figure!

Also, the storms that happen in the game are probably one of the most intense things I have ever seen in a game.

Re: Mad Max

So what do you guys think: is this a game that will get a "game of the year version" or will it get a season pass/DLC pack(s)?

No idea on dlc at this point, but this game is a lot better than metacritic will have you believe. It is fun as hell, has tremendous atmosphere, solid controls and while it suffers from a bit of repetitiveness that all open world games have, it is a little better in that area because the game feels so different. Also, the camp take over missions are so different from each other that I look forward to them.

Also, has had a few WOW moments that really have to be experienced...and probably one of the, if not the, greatest cinema to actual gameplay transitions I have ever seen. I knew it was coming, and it was so smooth and so well done it still blew me away..
Spoiler:
Your watching explosions and your character hop in his car as it speeds out of the explosions to have the camera pan around perfectly mid air to let you take control

Re: Mad Max

what would you say is the % of driving to hand-to-hand combat and foot quests, like 70/30?

Re: Mad Max

The game may feel like Borderlands in certain parts, but never when driving. The driving in this game is MUCH faster and MUCH better.

and the controls aren't too cumbersome with all the stuff you have to do while driving?
