Yeah, kinda figured they'd be mentioned early. Maybe others have the same opinion...Russell Crowe's voice is okay but sorta meh. Just doesn't seem to have any range. TOFOG seems more like a weekend lark from a bunch of friends having a larf than a serious endeavor. Then again, at least they're having fun instead of just releasing stuff to cash in on popularity of the actor.
Back in the 50's & 60's, studios used to release albums to cash in on actors' contracts, such as WB with western stars such as Clint Walker). The releases often were centered around show themes/settings (several Bonanza albums featuring the stars...whether they could sing or not). Lorne Greene had a big hit single with his mainly spoken-word recording of "Ringo" (Riiingoooo).
If the category were expanded to include "music albums by writers," Jim Carroll (The Basketball Diaries) had several good releases. "Catholic Boy" (1980) has great lyrics, interesting vocals, & a killer band. Link below.

Speaking of Jeff Bridges in Crazy Heart, Colin Farrell was the real singing surprise. Very strong voice with lots of range & easy, natural delivery.

I'd think that Jim Nabors would have to be mentioned as one of the most successful actors who also became known for their singing (28 albums). His traditional style may not be a favorite of anyone under 80, but the boy could really sing. And he had two variety shows after his Gomer Pyle days that capitalized on his singing abilities.

Yes, three pages, because this wasn't intended to be a thread where everyone just comes in and names any album by any actor/actress they can think of. The original question was what do you personally own, and what is your opinion of that album.

I guess no one is talking about Disney or Nickelodeon stars, so I won't either.
Jenny Lewis is a decent singer. Like her better with the Watson Twins than with Rilo Kiley.
I remember seeing Milla Jovovich's "The Gentleman Who Fell" on MTV. I liked it, but never bought the album.
I got a copy of Ariana Richards' CD a few years ago. Of course now she's painting, no longer acting.

My ex-wife owned the Don Johnson album. It wasn't too bad.
I played the hell outta The Blues Brothers - Briefcase Full of Blues. It was actually pretty good.
I also listened to The Monkees first album a lot.

A have a few 30 Seconds to Mars tracks on my phone. I didn't even know that was Jared Leto until a few months ago. I like them, obviously, or I wouldn't have put them on my phone.

I own copies of all the Blues Brothers CDs (and LPs before them). They're all pretty good.
Also The Monkees. Musician/actors who recorded some catchy stuff. They produced several albums of fairly good quality pop/rock. I own most of their output.
The Partridge Family. David Cassidy fronts a TV show to sell records from a "fake" band. Not all good but I own the "better" singles.
Pat Boone is a actor - I own his "In a Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy" release. I don't know if I'd call it "good" but it *is* interesting in a twisted sort of way.
Cybill Shepherd's "Cybill Does It...To Cole Porter" is a good album of Cole Porter standards. Nothing spectacular but she does a more than passable job. It's never been released on CD.

I just found these two Bobby Sherman two-fers at a thrift store. I got 'em for $1 each.
Bobby Sherman starred on the TV series Here Come the Brides and Getting Together. While not a particularly strong singer, Sherman was able to land a handful of top 10 hits, including "Little Woman" and "Julie, Do You Love Me." His songs remind me of my childhood.

Robert Downey Jr. - "The Futurist" ( Album's Wikipedia entry )
I only recently found out about this album that Robert Downey Jr. released back in 2004 (so a few years before his acting career resurgence starting in 2008).
From this video on the album, it seems like the album is mostly slow songs:

I wonder how good it is. Has anyone heard the whole album?

It probably doesn't count (because she was never really a "famous" actress), but Colleen Fitzpatrick played Amber Von Tussle in John Waters' Hairspray, then became the singer of the band Eve's Plum.

Re: Music albums by actors/actresses: Which do you own? Are they any good?
^Yeah, but I would agree that it doesn't really count. Colleen Fitzpatrick later embarked on a solo career which is actually what she is best remembered for, when she was known as "Vitamin C," scoring a platinum album and a couple of bonafide pop radio hits.

Not Eve's Plum, or even Eve Plumb, but Marcia Brady herself, Maureen McCormick. I actually have the CD. Here's the title track. No video, just audio.

I've got all the She & Him (Zoey Deschanel) albums and have seen them live. Does the Moulin Rouge soundtrack count with Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman (who perform on 8 of the tracks)?
