I loved the Invaders run they made in the 1970s. I just love WWII Marvel superheroes in action. That whole concept is so cool to me cuz it's an era way out of my lifetime.

Yes, the Namor/Sue Storm thing is very much iconic.

Speaking of Alan Davis, after Barry Windsor-Smith, he's my 2nd favorite comic book artist. He can do no wrong.

Who or what is Plop? I have never heard of that before. It sounds like a bad poop joke.

I'm kidding of course Gambler man.

Plop is my favorite comic book. It was a humor magazine from DC in the 70s that used the horror comic hosts (Cain, Abel, and Eve) from the DC horror titles of the time. It featured crazy covers by Basil Wolverton or Wallace Wood like this:

Interior art from greats like Sergio Aragones and Bernie Wrightson.

Man, I freaking love Arthur Adams, and I wish he would do more interior comic book work.

Just look at this!

I had this one as a poster as kid. It was a color one but goddamn was it such a good poster image of Logan.

Art's always been awesome but dirt slow. I still love his not-the-Fantastic-Four mini run, and his X-babies annuals. And heck, even the Longshot mini.

Yeah, you'd think they would have done it by now. Surely they've done more controversial things since then.

Yeah, whatever was in it, it couldn't have been worse than Preacher.

When DC was breaking out some old inventory issues a few years back, I was hoping they might do that for the Swamp Thing issue. After all, they published Warren Ellis's Shoot Hellblazer issue.

I picked up Alex Ross's Rough Justice at Barnes & Noble since it was on clearance for $9.99. It's mostly his pencils of the work he's done for DC. Apparently back in 2005, he begged DC to take over the Marvel Family to redefine their role in the DC Universe. He had everything mapped out for a maxi-series with lasting ramifications, including new designs for Captain Marvel, Freddie, and Mary. I wonder what idiot at DC turned this down?

Did they not do just that a couple of years ago? As mentioned, they put out Warren Ellis' Hellblazer "Shoot" (pulled because of Columbine), and I was sure there was a Swamp Thing issue done in the same mini-line, and presumed it was the Veitch Jesus one.

I missed getting all/any of them, because I was moving, but... did I imagine it completely, or were they pulled again at the last minute, or...?

After all the Confederate flag controversy, only today did something remind me of the Haunted Tank and how they flew a Confederate flag because the "haunting" was by a Confederate general, the namesake of the tank commander. Googling doesn't turn up any recent controversy over the comic book.

Whoever turned it down gave the Marvel family over to Winnick instead. Ever since the horrid Graduation Day, which completely destroyed Young Justice (so that they could become Teen Titans), I haven't liked Winnick's stuff all that much, but here's the synopsis:

Writer Judd Winick, who had written Outsiders (vol. 3), was given the task of revamping the Captain Marvel franchise. The events of Infinite Crisis included the death of the wizard Shazam, and in a twelve-issue maxi-series titled The Trials of Shazam!, Winick began exploring Freddy Freeman's quest to prove himself worthy of wielding the power of Shazam in the new age of magic, which began with the end of Infinite Crisis. As Winick felt the Shazam! characters were too light-hearted and not being taken seriously,[5] The Trials of Shazam! series features a much darker tone than earlier DC Comics Shazam! stories, reflecting more of the darker tones of the original Fawcett Captain Marvel Jr. stories. Freddy Freeman is now a young adult, forced to battle various beings powered by black magic, including a new female archenemy named Sabina, a witch who is planning to take the power for herself. The Shazam gods are presented in Trials of Shazam! in reimagined forms (Solomon is a female tattoo artist in New York, Hercules a Latino convict, etc.), since they are all hiding from the various evils of the new age.

So basically before this the Wizard dies (Day of Vengeance), Billy becomes the Wizard, Freddy becomes Captain Marvel and Mary becomes "Dark Mary" over in the horrid Countdown to Final Crisis. This culminates in JSA, where Mary turns Billy evil, the Wizard comes back and they all lose their powers.

So yeah whatever Alex Ross had planned was most likely better than that.
