True, but with a game as DLC-centric as this one, I would of expected more.

I actually think Forza 5 has added 3 tracks, but like you said, they aren't incorporated into the career, so that's kind of crap.

It hasn't even been 24hrs and it's almost sickening to read what's being said.
Forza 5 was definitely an oddity, the praise was mostly unwarranted. I think it was just because it was a pretty solid graphical benchmark for a brand new console generation. Even still it's sitting at under an 80% on gamerankings. It's better than it was at launch, but it's still the weakest one they made.

Forza Horizon 2 on the other hand was if anything underrated. Have you even played it? I think it's probably the best racing game since Forza 4.

Also Infamous Second Son was nothing but a very pretty, repetitive as hell, borefest.

re: #driveclub (PS4) -- PS+ demo live NOW (6/25/2015)

Titanfall was universally overrated off what seemed like an unstoppable hype machine. Forza Horizons 2 is highly rated, but imo it's the second best racer so far this gen (sorry, Rivals is still my favorite, but I'm not a huge Forza fan). it currently sits at 87%.

Infamous Second Son I had fun with, but I skipped Infamous 1 and 2. And the game does peak after its first hour and never gets any better (or worse) outside of a few very fun, throw-back arcade style boss battles and I think it was fairly rated as such. It works best as a throwback beat 'em up (similar to say a Double Dragon or River City Ransom) more so than an actual open world sandbox. It's the same mission every time, the only difference is you can run around a little bit more than traditional beat 'em ups.

Personally I think this gen has been mostly fairly rated, there are a few sites with obvious bias (Polygon, and then it's only a couple critics) and a few with completely erratic ratings (Gamespot), but on the whole (there are a lot of review sites out there) it's pretty even these days.

The only games I find to be constantly overrated lately are from Nintendo. They're very well made and play fine, but they're so heavily recycled I tend to find myself nodding off after 15 minutes of gameplay.

Gamespot/IGN/Polygon need to just be obliterated from the journalism world at this point.

Forza 5 was pretty great as an initial launch title. But as you get hours and hours into it, the cracks start to show and the list of cons start to outweigh the pros. I can see how reviewers were high on it, not having time to spend 15-20 hours with it.

I was really sold on Forza 5 for about 10-12 hours. Thought it was great. Now I can't stand it. It happens. It's not bias.

Titanfall was the same way. At first it's great, you have a lot of fun. Then you start wondering "Wait, this is all there is? That kinda stinks." and you sour on it.

Did you play it at launch? Because the game was fundamentally broken. You couldn't progress without grinding and repeating races to earn enough money to buy the next car you would need. The alternative was paying real money to unlock cars. To me, that was a HUGE turn off. Reviewers were given tokens to unlock cars so they never complained about it. Not to mention the extremely limited number of tracks and lack of cars (for a sim title like Forza). The limited tracks was noticeable just a few hours into it for me.

Anybody know what time the demo version drops in the store? The full version is already out there.

re: #driveclub (PS4) -- PS+ demo live NOW (6/25/2015)

Yeah, the lack of tracks (hell, the lack of even mirror tracks) in Forza 5 was absurd -- it got SO repetitive. The only way you could advance (without spending money) was off of their paltry race rewards. You could drive a million credit car, come in first and win less than 5000 CR towards your next car. It was awful for quite a while (though it looked so pretty and handled great.

BTW : The IGN 7.9 Review of DRIVECLUB is actually really positive in most aspects. They complained (like we all did) about the Euro-only cars, and say there isn't much in the single-player only aspect, but clearly this is a online-social driven game.

Speaking of which, I won't be able to play until late tonight. If anyone sets up some sort of a Club for our group, could you let us know? Thanks

I played it on Day One. I never had to grind, received no freebies other than what came with the Day One edition, and never gave them a dime in microtransactions. Made it close to level 30 I believe before stopping.

Well, all I can say somehow you managed to avoid what everyone else ran into.

edit: If you had a high enough Forza Rewards tier than that would of helped as well, since you get free credits. Also, I only rented the game, so maybe it was worse for rentals since we wouldn't of gotten any of the purchase freebies.

I'm antisocial, and I hate rubber band AI. I will still give the demo a go, but it looks like my racing hopes lie with Project Cars.

Those are both certainly possible factors. The amount of time I put into Forza Horizon had my reward tier pretty high. I hope this is demonstrating that there can be wildly different opinions for a video game that have absolutely nothing to do with bias and have everything to do with personal experience.

I never said it had anything to do with bias in the first place... Just shitty reviewers.

The bias comment wasn't directed at you. But I don't see "shitty reviewers" as "a thing" either. There are wildly different opinions of Forza 5 IN THIS THREAD. People see things differently. I don't know why everyone here, people who haven't even played #DRIVECLUB yet, are freaking out over middle of the road reviews.

First off, no one is freaking out. Just discussing some oddities when it comes to the reviews. The only wildly differing opinion on Forza 5 in this thread is yours, and you are wrong.

I agree in theory, but a terrible review score is a terrible review score. Certainly no game is in everyone's wheelhouse and I'm not shocked that this game might be inferior to Forza Horizon 2 (to be fair, discostu did tell us in advance). But there is NO WAY any reasonable video game reviewer can fairly give this game a 5.0 score which is widely seen as a terrible score indicative of mediocrity, rushed production, sub-standard graphics and game-ending glitches. I've seen enough so far to call that score absurdly low. It's the lowest outlier on Metacritic -- and Gamespot is too important a gaming site to be that outlier.

Nah. They're going to be just as jobless as everyone else. Might as well get some clicks in the mean time.

I think anybody with any sense will play the PS+ edition and draw their own conclusions, and reviews for this game won't matter any more than the ones for Destiny did.

Yup, but without the "risk" we took with Destiny. We should know pretty quickly if it's for us or not. I stocked up on PSN credit, so I'll almost certainly buy it unless it find it really disappointing. Can't wait to check it out (but I'll have to wait anyway -- my son's class has a damn Halloween show tonight at a local casino. Gotta love Vegas).

Amen....I take reviews with a grain of salt like I do with the Nightly News...both are more of personal opinion than real balance coverage.
