Re: Prometheus 2 (2015, Scott) S: Fassbender, Rapace
Hah. Feels like these days Scott just shows up, points a bunch of cameras on something, then gives it all to the editors later on.

Prometheus: Ridley Scott's latest factory knock-off
Director Ridley Scott is the Dale Chihuly of filmmaking. Once an inventive craftsman of unique, tantalizing images, a master at creating worlds which entertained and invited contemplation–think Alien, Blade Runner and the early, nearly forgotten The Duellists–he now employs a battery of slaves who churn out machine-like baubles of soulless beauty. These gleaming, shallow pieces of product are fit only for a vanity museum, precision tooled instruments pretending to be important but, when you scrape past their expensive glaze, reveal a disdainful laziness. Think Gladiator, American Gangster, Robin Hood. Sure Scott can still manage an exciting sequence or two, self-contained set pieces of rocketing suspense or grisly duels of survival, but this is the fool’s gold flecked in the cheap chrome of his digital effects, the minor moments of clarity within the logic-challenged chaos of his narratives. Scott no longer crafts anything. He just fires up the conveyor belt, uniforms his minions and tells them which knobs to turn...................................

I like most of his movies but always feel the scripts are lackluster. I think he has good phases and bad, Alien and Blade Runner were followed by some, imho, forgettable pics (yes including Legend), then he had another run with Gladiator, Hannibal, Black Hawk Down, Matchstick Men and Kingdom of Heaven DC. American Gangster is one of his most popular flicks though I didn't care for it. Body of Lies, Robin Hood, The Counselor and Prometheus all had lousy scripts, but Prometheus works well with soundtrack only.
And yes, I think Hannibal is hysterical and well directed.

I REALLY like the first one. I enjoy it even though it has a shit script. Everything is solid in there except the script. And I guess old Guy Pearce. Why not just get Max Von Sydow or someone to be old man Weyland.
And holy fuck is that SE BD amazing. Worth it just for the documentary. I'm a whore for long ass movie doc. Lauzirika did one for Amazing Spider-Man too, how was that one and what was length?

I think we should have an actual meet-up to take Supermallet to see it. When's the release date? Can we start saving up for plane fare now?

Yes. Except it really isn't. It has the same aliens, but instead of being insectile they are based on forms of seafood (caviar, squid, etc.). It even features the Space Jockeys. Only they aren't the Space Jockeys, they are people-sized (which actually makes them true Space Jockeys since jockeys have to be much smaller to ride the horses). Or maybe it takes place in a time when people are much bigger.
Anyway, the next one will also be the same. Except the aliens will be based off of giraffes and Dijon mustard. It will also follow a character who may or may not be a replicant sex-doll who is the daughter of a dead guy. Well, the character isn't dead, but they will use a dead actor to play the father and just use make-up or CG.
Rest assured though: it is confirmed the characters will act in manners contrary to their nature and continue to make idiotic decisions.

You guys realize that Supermallet is autistic, right? Also, no way in hell any y'all are gonna be tried as minors.

The solution is clear. All the characters must be established as monumental idiots. Only then can we rest assured that they will only make intelligent and rational decisions.
