Hitman (2016: X1, PS4, PC)

Looks like Hitman 6 is officially on the way.

Square Enix has revealed the first details about the Hitman game in development for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

In an open letter, developer IO Interactive reveals that you'll play "a globetrotting Agent 47 at the prime of his career – the apex predator stalking his prey across the world, with the support of his long-term handler Diana Burnwood and the whole of the ICA."

Whole story here.

In? Out? Thoughts?

Shit. I haven't even played the last one. How was it? It looked like it had an Arkham vibe.

Absolution could have been great had the disguise system worked properly. I'm hoping that they improve it with this game.

What do you mean? What was wrong with the disguise system?

A fair critique, but it didn't ruin my overall enjoyment of the game.

It was too easy for AI to recognize you in disguises, even if you're wearing one that covers your entire face.

I loved Absolution, even with the disguise issues.

I never played any beyond the first one because I hated it so much, but I will say the trailer for Absolution was pretty awesome.

Some gameplay for your viewing pleasure.

Additional info:
The game comes out December 8th as a digital download. If you download for PS4, you get 6 additional exclusive missions. Gameplay is supposed to be more open rather than linear like Absolution and levels are 6 times larger than the ones in the last game.

Free content will be available to download throughout the year. A retail version won't be available until late 2016.

Having the alpha video there makes me less inclined to get this. Also, I'm not big on being forced to buy a full release digitally. A 20 dollar game? No problem. A 60 dollar game? Not so much.

The New 'Hitman' Will Be Offered in $35 & $60 Tiers

The new 'Hitman' has already been moved to next March, but today, IO has announced some new pricing options that might make the game's interesting approach a bit more palatable. In essence, when the game drops on March 11, the $34.99 buy-in gets everything available at launch while $59.99 gets everything at launch plus the post launch content that has been discussed since the game's reveal. There is an upgrade path as well. For the $35 buyers, an extra $30 can be bought later to get what the $60 buyers will be getting.

These new options are in response to fan feedback, and indeed, if they had been part of the original announcement, I think they would have been received comparatively well. Still, those who want the content that drops on launch day can pay the $34.99 price and get it, and ultimately decide if the post launch content is worth an additional purchase.

From Hannes Seifert, studio head at Io-Interactive, "We've had a lot of feedback since we announced HITMAN that has helped us shape these next steps. It's important that we listen to fans and that we’re open with what we're doing. So today we're sharing details on our release plan and we’re announcing something the community has asked for: a new price to enter the game at launch."

Here's the official breakdown of the content schedule:

Initial launch content on March 11, 2016 will include:

-Three huge sandbox locations: Paris, Sapienza and Marrakesh
-Six campaign missions with 40 unique ways to take out your main targets
-Contracts mode[4] for all locations with around 800 potential targets

Post launch content will include:

-One new sandbox location per month in April, May and June
-Thailand in April, USA in May and Japan in June
-Each location will come with additional missions, signature kills and more Contracts targets
-New locations will open up new weapons, tools and disguises for all locations
-Contracts mode for all locations

Live content* begins on 11 March, 2016 and will include:

-Weekly live events – including targets which will appear one-time-only for limited time only
-Weekly Io-Interactive developer team created Contracts
-Monthly promoted best community created Contracts
-New items such as weapons and disguises

re: Hitman (2016: X1, PS4, PC)

'Hitman' Reboot Has Now Gone Fully Episodic

Earlier today, Sony sent out a mass message over the PSN stating that pre-orders had been cancelled due to "the configuration of the product...has changed significantly." We now know what they meant: 'Hitman' has been chopped up into bite sized chunks to be rationed out monthly over the year.

According to a statement from Io: "We’ve always said we won’t put anything out until it’s ready. That means what we release has to hit the quality level you have come to expect from a 'Hitman' game."

"It’s not a decision we’ve taken lightly and we fully acknowledge that the decision may frustrate some players. But it is a shift that we believe will ensure the best possible foundation for this game and the future of 'Hitman'."

The plan now is this: The prologue and the Paris mission they've been highlighting in most of the gameplay footage so far will release on March 11th, as scheduled. Italy will release in April, then Morocco in May, and new missions released every month until what they're now calling a "season" ends late this year with a mission in Japan.

Folks who like their game purchases nice and simple will be pleased to know the full game can still be purchased upfront for $60, which will give you access to every episode as it releases. There's even a Collector's Edition that can be had for $140 they go over in detail here. If you decide to go piecemeal, the intro and prologue can be purchased for $15, at which point you can buy the other episodes as individual add-ons for $10 a pop, or if you decide you're in for a pound, you can pay $50 and you're good for the complete game again. Alternately, Io will be releasing all the missions on a single disc at the end of the year. You know, when the game will actually be completed.

As slow as I play games these days, 1 level a month is what I would probably play anyway.

Seems like they have no clue what they're doing with this game. I'll also wait for everything to be collected before I consider buying it.

re: Hitman (2016: X1, PS4, PC)

Hitman is now available to pre-order and pre-download on Xbox One, and it'll require a whole 8.35GB of your console's hard drive space for the first episode, which includes the Prologue and Paris missions for $14.99. Or you can get the 'Full Experience' for $59.99.

The Prologue includes a training ground where Agent 47 first cuts his teeth with the ICA, 20 years prior to the events of the game's main missions, kicking off with the Parisian 'Showstopper' contract. Contracts, Elusive Targets and more will also add longevity to proceedings.

Hitman will be making its debut on 11th March, before the second episode surfaces heads to Sapienza in Italy this April.

Played the two training missions that make up the beta. Good stuff, as always. Can't wait for the full game.

HITMAN DISC EDITION RELEASE SLIPS TO EARLY 2017

In regards to the reasoning for the delay, a Square Enix representative offered the following statement to IGN.

“This year is all about delivering the best episodic experience for Hitman and that takes us to Autumn/Fall. Releasing the disc version in January just makes sure we have enough time after the season concludes to dedicate to getting the best disc version of the game out.”
